thatonethere
I have a wii, and I enjoy it. Then again, I'm not a hardcore gamer. I used to be since I grew up on Nintendo, but those years are long gone. There are some adult games on the Wii as well. There is one thing with the wii. They make a lot of crap games. You can avoid the crap games for the most part if you do some research or rent before you buy. That'll save you a lot of money and dissapointment when you purchase games. I hope that helps as well. Vladimir
Microsoft just released some numbers to respond to a comment from Sony, apparently PS3 could double their sales, with Xbox sales staying flat- and it would catch up in 2014! Xbox is outselling it huge in the United States, surely that isn't on accident? I have always felt Sony was the most adult aimed out of all of them. But if you are not looking for serious mature gaming, and it is more of a family/kids thing, go for the Wii all the way! You will have a lot of fun with it even if you cannot hop on Modern Warfare 2 with your buddies- if that is your goal, go Xbox. If you are just looking for some casual fun, get the Wii. Honestly if I were looking for online play at all, I would go with Xbox. LIVE is an excellent service that is only getting better, and it is very affordable (sure Sony's is free, but it isn't nearly as good). If you were at all interested in Blu-Ray, I would give PS3 a serious look- however, as Blu Ray players are plummeting in price that is becoming less of a selling point for the PS3 honestly. PS3 has had a wave of cool exclusive games recently, but overall Xbox takes the cake for exclusive titles.
Stuie
I'm with stuie on this one, I'd go with one of those old 8-bit NES systems. But, if you want a newer system, maybe the wii? I am not much of a gamer myself, but it looks like the wii might be kinda fun at times, plus you can get all the old-school 8-bit games on it.
I am not a big gamer myself, but I will spend hours pulling my hair out over some of those Mega Man Levels and Zelda Dungeons Oh yeah my NES gets more play than anything. I mean friends come over and are like "Hell Yeah! Put in Contra!" Next would be the Gamecube... Cause That's my favorite Version of Mario Kart!
Gran Turismo 5 is coming out in Febuary (GT5 Prologue is out right now, which is a prologue to the full release) I'm a PC and PS3 fanboy, I love my PS3 to death. The functions of the PS3 are so much more beneficial to that of the 360. I could rant on about how the PS3 will give you your money's worth better than the 360, but that'd be several paragraphs long and I'm about to go take BART into San Francisco. Basically... PS3 has all the basic functions of the 360, DVD... Netflix... Internet... What the PS3 has to offer over the 360 is... Built in WiFi (It's like at least $60 for the Wifi adapter for the 360), Blu Ray, smaller controller. Both consoles have games that children can play, as Walt said Little Big Planet GOTY, but the PS3 is much more a family console with what it offers than a 360. hope that helps John I can always talk one on one with you about it if you want, via PM on here and my email which I dunno if you still have
Chreees

why 120gb and not 250?
The 120gb is the only variant the new slim model is available in. It is quieter, uses less power, and can also bitstream HD audio if you decide to use it. It gives up the ability to run Linux and does not have PS2 backwards capability, but that was dropped a while ago unless you can still find a Metal Gear Solid PS3 bundle. The hard drive can be changed out later if you feel the need to expand and it's fairly easy to do. I would recommend Little Big Planet: Game of the Year Edition if you want to play with your kids. It's currently on sale for $50 on Amazon and in some Walmarts if you can find it. I know the one up in Portola Hills has it, not sure about Aliso Viejo or San Clemente.
No Walt, I believe they brought out the 250GB Slim not too long ago. My friend told me he just picked it up. I remember it because he was being kind of a jackass about it, saying his was better just because I have the 120GB and he has the 250GB. Really he's the one that's in the shithole, because he paid way too much extra money for that little upgrade in memory. It's way cheaper to upgrade the HDD manually later on. 500GB HDD's can be had at a really awesome price on newegg.com usually. I believe PS3 wins above all... And let the facts show that the 360 is only beating PS3 in the United States- in most other countries PS3's outselling 360. The PSN is good enough for online for me, it's free. PS3 has some awesome exclusives, like Infamous and Uncharted being my favs. My gf and I play Little Big Planet together- it's a great family/kids game. EDIT: Everything else Walt said is absolutely true... I have PS2 to play my old games on still, and never had a need for Linux. There's talks that Mozilla Firefox is teaming up with Sony to provide the PS3 with a better browser- we'll see. I love my PS3, lol.

no longer welcome
so i read everything you guys said and was headed towards a PS3, went to costco and they don't carry it. I'm a bit of an impatient shopping so I call my friend who has kids a few years older than me, he said go xbox. (i was concerned with what you guys said about controllers being bulky, he said it's fine) i wanted xbox for myself and ps3 for the kids (size of controllers) and the blue ray would be an extra feature. so at least i came out ahead. i need to get myself forza. just wrapped it up, i need to know if this comes with 2 controllers or do i need to get another one. $294 comes with a batman game which is great since my boy is in a batman stage and an atv game, both kids will enjoy. thanks for all of the input, it helped alot, John

It seems the 250gb came out last month at the $350 price point. I agree the 120gb is the better deal as $50 can already buy a 250 gb hd right now and it's unlikely the average user will need the extra 130gb any time soon. The latter is a game I would not recommend for younger kids. I think the Costco bundles are only 1 controller but I could easily be wrong on that. It's odd that Costco didn't have PS3s as I do recall them having a bundle the last time I was there, although I think it was the older fatboy edition so maybe they sold out? FWIW I go to the one on Heather Ridge. On the brightside, if you don't like the Xbox or decide you'd rather have a PS3, you can always return it. Gotta <3 Costco! Twisted
I have both systems and while I love the 360 and the games on it, the PS3 does more than the 360. It shouldn't matter what people say about either console, everyone is biased just a little bit. I would go to a gaming store, mainly gamestop, and mess around on the kiosk stations to get a small glimpse of what the consoles will play like. If you're mainly looking for a console for your kids, go with the Wii. The other two consoles have games good for both kids and adults. Good luck! SimplexCoda
I would go 360. The hardware isnt as good, but the game selection is far better. Also people making the arguement that ps3 has a blu-ray player....so what? Yeah the video quality is pretty good, but seriously have you ever seen the DRM involved in blu-ray? If you so much as put your blu-ray disk in another blu-ray player, even you own both, Sony (the maker of blu-ray) can sue you claiming piracy. Its total bull crap. I would say go 360, maybe even wii.
