Bulldog_916
Molasses for sure. Provides a base of sweetness which loads the shisha for the flavor that you want it to have.
Dr. B
I use both... Isn't glycerin an integral component of hookah tobacco and the choice emerges between molasses, honey, or agave nectar? I've never had success using one or the other and not both (molasses or glycerin) Edited December 17, 2009 by Dr. B

Isn't glycerin an integral component of hookah tobacco and the choice emerges between molasses, honey, or agave nectar? I've never had success using one or the other and not both (molasses or glycerin) [/quote] Some shishas use a mixture of glycerine and honey, but I haven't heard of any shishas that use agave nectar and glycerine. I would guess that some molasses based shisha has glycerine in it. I don't know for sure. I've only had experience with one molasses based shisha (tangiers), so I couldn't really give a knowledgable answer on that (I'll check the ingredients on the label when I can). It seems like using straight molasses would make the shisha hard to stir, so I guess both molasses and glycerine are or can be used together. Are there any shishas out there with agave nectar in them? Do you make your own shisha, Dr. B? I'm only 4 months into hookah, and after learning so much here, I would like to attempt to do it myself someday.
Jacob Shock
glycerin is not a base, its something that should be used in all shishas to help produce thick milky smoke, without burning it. i have made my own shisha several times and for the record yes you can use agave nector. it tastes closer to honey base, its quite sweet. but molasess is the way to go IMO. Arcane
As mentioned, there is no such thing as a glycerin base...your bases are molasses, honey, corn syrup or the like....not glycerine. so, your initial question is flawed....but, out of the regularly available bases...i'd go molasses...
