king_lunchb0x
hey just picked up a few mason jars...i heard there really good to store shisha in...if they are not please say so...anyhow i was just curious on how i prep the jars. I think when making jam/jelly you have to boil them for like 10 minutes or something to sanatize them?? I kinda dont remember a whole lot about wut im supposed to do with em. Would it be alright just to get sum super hot water and soap to clean em? kinda dumb question but i have never made jam before...well only in my pants?!?!11? Jacob Shock
i assume soap and hot water will get the job done. if you want to boil them to be safe it wont hurt.
chinamon
boiling them would just be a waste of time if you're just storing tobacco. they only need to be sanitized before canning food because if there is any bacteria then the food would go back really quick (even after its canned). regular dish detergent and water will do just fine.
delSol_si
How does one sufficiently stir shisha in a mason jar?
Sonthert
I don't think its necessary to boil them and I don't recommend using soap at all. Like Chinamon said, you boil them to remove indigenous yeast and fungus found in the air. Jams and jellies are wonderful food for microscopic friends to metabolize. If you really wanted to be clever and sterilize them, mix 25% rubbing alcohol and 75% water and swirl it around in there, rinse three times, real well and dry them. I would not recommend using tall Mason jars with Tangiers, the surface area to height ratio is too small. If you are using them for a high water-content tobacco, they are ideal, to prevent the water from escaping.
Jondd88
Like chinamon said, canning jars get boiled after they are filled with food and sealed so that bacteria and fungal spores can't get in and cause the food to decompose. Since you are just using it as an airtight container, all you need to do is fill with tobacco and put the lid on. If you want to clean them prior to putting the tobacco in, you can just use hot water and soap. Boiling them will just be a waste of time, water, and gas/electricity. I have some half-pint mason jars myself and used them for some of my Nakhla. They are handy for storing things in when you want them to stored in an airtight container.
