Furious!

Okay mods, I know this topic is on thin ice, but I have no other way of figuring this out.

I had left my syrian hookah over at my friends house a week ago. I was going over there to pick it up and when I got there, I smelled something that I wasn't too familiar with, but I knew what it was. I thought nothing of it, and grabbed my hookah and left.
However, the smell stayed with me as I went to my car. I smelled my bowl and BAM! I got a wiff of where it was coming from. It turns out somebody at my friends house had smoked NHT out of it. Now I was really scared driving with that home. I still don't know what to do with it.

What would you suggest? Deep cleaning or is it better to just toss it? (I'd prefer not to... Beautiful pipe)

I did yell at my friend and I told him that if I couldn't find a way to make it safe for me, he would have to buy me another one.

Baking soda, lemon juice, lots and lots of soap and water, and maybe soak it for a couple of hours. I can't imagine anything really taking away the smell of youknowwhat, but maybe it's possible with some serious work!

Is it everything or just the bowl/stem?

Maybe you can salvage the base and just have him buy you a new stem and bowl. That's pretty weak what he did, though. I'm sorry, dude.

the smell and taste will go away. your gonna have to break out the lemon juice/vinegar and backing soda. you may have to clean her a couple times though.

your hose is probably fucked, depending how they did what thet did. if they li the NHT with a lighter chuck the hose. unless it washable then just clean the hell out of it.

are you concernd about taste or any resin left over from the NHT. eithor way it is all removable.

now your next problem is your friend. did you give him permision to do what he did, or to let someone else do it? i doubt it. somebody needs an ass kicking and a broken nose. if someone did that to one of my hookahs, i doubt we would be friends much longer.

ive had this happen to me once before. but against my better judgement i let him do it because he was being deployed to afganastan. he was infantry in the army. at the time i felt it was a nice thing to do for the guy, but i look back and say it wasnt the best idea. don't trash it, if that had happened to it over and over, over a long period it would be impossible to get out. But if it was only once or a couple times, do some deep deep cleans, you will get the smell out and it will be just fine.

But seriously, I'd kick the shit out of the kid who did that!

Don't trash the hookah! Like everyone says, do some deep cleaning and let it soak in water for a while. Definitely get a new hose if the smell seems too strong. You should smoke strong flavors out of it for a while to get the smell out. Nakhla DA should do the trick.

Rubbing alcohol will break down any NHT residue that is left in there. I got a hookah from a friend that was used for NHT, and after several scrubs and a few baths in water/90% alcohol, it got clean and the taste was gone. Make sure you clean the hose ports and purge out as well. Hose, probably gonna need a new one.

this is an excelent sugestion. rubbing alcohol will clean anything.

it's cool with the mods. This is why we invented the term nht to begin with.

Rubbing alcohol is good, CLR will get ANYTHNG out. New hose, new bowl, and you should be good to go.

Definitely get a new hose...
Phan bought an KM OG TM that someone used NTH with and the day he got it cleaned it and I could never tell that NTH was ever used in it.

Same thing happened to me with something still legal in my state. Took a hell of a lot of cleaning and I had to throw away the hose, but after several scrubbings and a long soak in an vodka bath, it's fine. Still pisses me off to even think about it though. I will never again loan out a hookah, and my "friendship" is damaged enough I haven't spoken to him in almost a year. I don't mind somebody doing what they feel the need to do but don't use my shit to do it.

I wouldn't throw it away. I have a Mya that a friend did that too... I thru out the bowl and hose -they were never right again- and I scrubbed my hookah with a cleaner that had those lil crystal scubbys in it and then i still wasnt satisfied so I put it in the dishwasher. came out reallly clean...practically brandnew.

New bowl and hose. As for the stem and vase use Heavy cream/whole milk (which ever one you have) at fist because the active ingredient in NHT is an alkaloid therefore it dissolves well in fats. Follow this up with baking soda and lemon juice/vinegar (which ever one you have lying around). And then rinse everything out thoroughly.

Me personally I'd make them buy me a new one and let them keep the one that they fucked up. Oh and a lemon reamer to the ass for good measure.

I was going to suggest that cleaner too but decided not to because of the name but yea that will remove all traces from the pipe itself.

the bowl and hose (if not washable) is a loss tho toss them make your friend pay for them and the cleaner as well. (scrub the pipe till you think nothing could possibly be left in it then clean it again just to be safe.


if the hose is washable clean it thoroughly with the cleaner followed by lemon juice then clean hot water. if any smell or taste is still in it toss it just to be on the safe side.

last but not least punch your friend between the legs as hard as you can with a pair of sap gloves video tape it and post it on youtube with the title "bitch don't touch my hookah again."

if the hose is not washable, it is ruined, plain and simple. the bowl I would throw out...chances are they used a lighter and nht resin is tough to get rid of...and a new bowl is under 15 depending on what kind you go with. as for cleaning it, I highly recommend Everclear alcohol...its 151proof...that would get it clean...reuse the Everclear for multiple cleans at one time and get a brush in there. MAKE SURE TO CLEAN THE PURGE AND HOSE PORT.
I had this same problem before. Boiling hot water will break it down and get rid of it, but I ruined a hookah doing that by destroying the seals that were glue.

epson salt and rubbing alcohol. Anything else is a waste of money and possible hazardous to your health. Get the strongest rubbing alcohol usually 91% at walgreens and a thing of epson salt. shake it around on the inside of your stem. its the only thing that will clean it all out and its dirt cheap to do!

Throw that thing away. I would never trust a pipe that has had NHT smoked out of it. Hell, in the last month, i have decided I will not buy any used hookahs unless i am 100% certain no NHT has been smoked out of it. You can NEVER be certain its not in there anymore. I have gotten threatened by too many cops to take the chance anymore.


About a month ago, i took my hookah down to the smoking lounge in one the dorm complexes. I set mine up and started smoking. A bit later, another guy shows up with his hookah after seeing mine and sets up right next to me. We chat for a little, then he asks to try mine, im like "sure, ok" and he goes "holy shit that is amazing!" and then says "you want to try mine?" since i knew he smoked NHT, i gave him THAT look and he goes "oh, don't worry, i didn't load any NHT in there" so i go "ok" and took a puff. i could instantly taste the NHT in there. i go "what the hell? you said there was none in there!" and then he goes "there wasn't any, i smoked about a half pound of NHT through there last week though, maybe your tasting that" Oh man i was soo pissed. From then on, i don't trust other people's hookahs who i don't personally know.

My final advice, chuck it, don't take the chance, unless you are ok with the possibility of NHT being in there, which i wouldn't. I'm not talking to much the taste, but if a cop ever swabs that.... (i have already been threatened by a cop that he was going to take my hookah in for testing, he didn't but said he was going to) i hate campus police, worthless, pathetic excuse for law enforcement.

Agree with not throwing it away.  You can get the smell out so no point in tossing it.  I agree with the throwing the hose away though.  I guess you could try some heavy ghosting flavors, but that's up to you.

I had a party at my house with 150 people there, everything went well except for my two dumass friends who pulled the same trick. Its like this presumptive attitude "I want to smoke it whenever and wherever I feel like" so its OK. They know very well that its difficult to get out and they don't care. At least my two friends felt that way. I am very physically intolerant to the NHT in question and they both knew this on top of everything else...which made it even worse.

The hose is trash. The bowl should be replaced. I would start with rubbing alcohol and work my way up to other cleaners. If you have cheap vodka available, use that first.
