Geo Caching?

Haha yes.  I did this a few years ago with some buddies.  It was fun.  There a couple hundred in my city so we went to find the hardest ones.  I remember this one at the golf course took almost an hour to find.  Another one at the office depot parking lot I dropped in this huge ass bush and it's lost forever.   :scratch_one-s_head:

I wouldnt mind doing it more, but dont know if i will much for two reasons: First i have too many hobbies already, second i dont have a GPS and dont want to buy one either. I will prolly just do this when i hang out with this one particular friend.

if you guys have a smart phone often they'll use the gps antenna to do geo caching. I used to be into it a lonnnnnggg time ago before you could even get a digital camera at a reasonable price much less a gps.

Thinking about getting back into it since my palm pre has some apps now that will allow me search for them wherever the mood strikes me (from my current gps location)

I did this a few times about 6 years ago when I was in college, it was pretty fun. I should see if there are any blackberry apps for this and try it out with the gps. I'm sure there are a ton around here.

Actually once you get past the GPS purchase, it's one of the least expensive hobbies there is. Almost entirely walking/hiking and inexpensive items to leave in the cache. It gets even more interesting with international caches. Someone will put something it they're trying to move around the world so you take the item and take responsibility for moving it to another cache closer to it's final destination. There are sometimes letters left in there from other geo-cachers, etc. It gets kinda involved. Oh! And if you're an adrenaline junky, there are caches at the top of mountain ledges you have to climb to get to and even at the bottom of the ocean. Go to My linkfor all the information. If I get back into it I'll be leaving 50 grams samples of tobacco........

I'd think this would work fine. The gps I have in my car also has a walking setting, so I don't see why it wouldn't work. I guess just make sure it has the battery life to be unplugged for long(er) periods of time.

I'll have to talk to my club, but I think you guys have given me something our club can do for fun... so we actually have something awesome I looked on the site and there are a lot in my area ... though I can't really see the total or much at the moment I'll need to make an account ... but this looks like a lot of fun.
