cotsi95
do you let them fully lite before smoking?
Travis
Check list: Let the coals light completely before you put them on the bowl. Ventilation is very important. Drink plenty of fluids. light the coals outside or near a window when possible to avoid breathing in the smoke from the fireworks show. And it always helps me to have some food in me prior to smoking.
Brandon`
Ya i'm not a new comer, I always used these at work because I don't have a electric stove and always wonder y I got headaches... I let them get fully lit acually I usually get busy for a few minutes and there all ashey and have to ash them off before I even start smoking them. I never see them glow orange tho there always just ashy i'm pretty sure thats just how the coals are lit.
Chreees
Some people get headaches from quicklights... Me being one of them. I really don't see why people can't just use one of those electric coil burners... They cost $10. And for those that complain that naturals take too long to light... Throw them on the damn stove or electric coil burner while you set up your hookah and pack your bowl and they'll be ready by the time you're done setting up. In my opinion naturals are less hassle as with quicklights you end up spending time lighting them all the way. This is something that you can just leave for the stove to do while you spend your time setting up stuff. None of this is directed towards you, Brandon. I've just been seeing a lot of people complain about quicklights. The thing that gives people headaches (not all people, however) with quicklights is something about the chemicals in them. So that's how you're getting your headaches. Overall, naturals will always be your friend in the way of less hassle, no headaches, and longevity. So for those with trouble with quicklights, grab an electric coil burner for $10 from Walgreen's and start lighting the coals as you're packing your bowl and putting water in your hookah. They'll be done by the time you're done poking holes. I don't buy quicklights, ever... /endrant

Chreees
Does your work have electrical outlets? If so, bring a coil burner... I swear, I now officially avoid quicklights like the plague...

delSol_si
I get headaches almost every time i smoke, which made me cut back on my smoking. I talked to mushrat about it though and he said it was probably the coals i use... CH QLs. I told him i didn't have a way to light the naturals, which is why i use QLs. He suggested i light the naturals off the quick lights. I haven't tried it yet as i don't have any naturals, but it might be worth a shot. One thing that really startled me...i always though that the QLs only had the chemical stuff on the outside and it was all gone once the coal was lit...i was wrong. I broke a coal in half one day and tried to light it on the broken edge by accident. Turns out it sparked up just as well...which means that chemical is probably throughout the entire coal... Sonthert
Thats likely, but when it lights, it probably sparks through burning it all off. Otherwise it would be sparking and stopping throughout the smoking session.
