sine
Hey all, I've been lurking here whenever I've needed hookah tips, and finally realized that I don't know why on earth I haven't joined yet, considering this is my kinda forum. So I'm a student at Purdue, got my first (p.o.s.) hookah about two years ago, and it's become one of my favorite pastimes (along with my Savinelli billiard pipe... love those English shag blends). I finally decided to upgrade to a better hookah, and today I ordered one of the KM Gurus from hookahjohn. Has anyone used one of these yet? I think its the same pipe my local bar usually uses, so I'm feeling good about it, but I was just looking for some personal opinions. Also, I normally smoke mixed SB and Tangiers out of a medium phunnel bowl, packed real loosely with a mod, one layer of foil and three rings of holes from the rim to the mod, topped with 2-3 coconaras. Amidoinitrite? Just looking for feedback... I'm also looking to switch from SB to something that lasts a bit longer...
LZ22
Hello and welcome! While I do not own a KM, everyone else on this board will drool and talk about how they make love to their KM (sorry, its true though...haha). They smoke incredible from what I've heard. As for your tobacco question, check out this post: http://www.hookahforum.com/topic/35607-so-you-want-to-smoke-starbuzz-eh/ This will give you everything you need to know on how to smoke SB. From the looks of it, you should be able to make a single bowl last a couple hours if done properly. My tobacco of choice right now is Nakhla. Its fairly cheap, easy to manage, good flavor, and packs a nice buzz.
Jacob Shock
welcome bro. never used a guru but ive used a couple KM's. you are gonna be pleased. as for you bowl packing, how long are you getting out of the bowl. if your doing a 1 round session switch to a small. as for switching from starbuzz. i think its a good idea. try a brand called tonic. its very simmilar to starbuzz, but its cheaper and tastes better. oh yea and i smoke alot of nakhla just like LZ22. i think i might be growing to like it more than tangiers (so sorry eric)
blagage
I do not have a guru, but i do have a KM. i do and will always make love to my KM. so i have no doubt you will be pleased. I use a tangiers phunnel typically there are two ways i pack it with tangiers shisha. I will either pack it real tight pushed down to about equal with the inner nipple. or i will pack it looser and a little above that inner nipple of the phunnel and let the foil do the work. Anyway back to KM; be sure to post your review of how you like it. i would love to buy another KM hookah but i just bought one. i hate having a limit on money. enjoy. sine
Thanks guys... I'll post a review as soon as I give it a try. I know KMs are supposed to be the Cadillac of pipes, but I've also heard that the gurus are kinda the Geo Metro of KMs, so I don't really know what to expect lol. I've never really understand how a phunnel can really work without a mod, it just seems like you'd end up wasting a ton of shisha... but with a mod (I fashioned one out of the small quasi-sphere at the bottom of a soda can) heat management is real finicky, I find... maybe I should try packing it a bit tighter to get a longer lasting flavor, it usually dies shortly after the one hour mark It's weird, I've been into hookah for a while, and I'm familiar with SB, Tangy, AL, AW, fusion... but I've never heard of Nakhla, and that seems to be wildly popular on here. I'll have to go ferret around for some... maybe my local smoke shop has some...
sine
...and while I'm here, I guess I might as well ask... what's the difference between the four lines of Nakhla? There seems to be regular, mizo, sherazade, and fakhfakina, with a lot of duplicate flavors... are these similar to the different tangiers lines? Nakhla, El Nakhla, El Basha, Fakhakina, Sherazade, and Tropicana. ar just standard nakhla. some line have more exotic flavors. Mizo is extra wet nakhla. stronger flavor. thicker smoke. longer life. then there are your tombac nakhla's. Zaghloul, Zaghloul lite, Khan el khalili, Bata, and Kass super. these are really strong strait tobacco. smoked with coals directly on the tobacco. im not sure if bata and kass super are a tombac or a shisha though. LZ22
Nakhla is a hidden gem in my opinion. I never even heard of it until I saw everyone raving about it on here. I've never gotten better flavor from a tobacco (I haven't tried tangiers before). One of their most popular flavors is Nakhla Sweet Melon. And from what I've heard, the entire Mizo line is to die for. I forgot who, but someone on this board has great tutorials on how to properly pack and smoke Nakhla...links in their signatures. Basically you want to pack it pretty tight and dense.

Tangiers for all it's glory being such a natural product is more sensitive to all kinds of things including humidity, heat, etc. It requires more control and handling. I love them both equally, but there are times that you don't want to have to work at it. So for those times Nakhla fits the bill. 'Rani

Chreees
Jacob- Tropicana is not a line of Nakhla, but a flavor- Grapefruit. Mattarios2 is the guy with the Nak packing in a phunnel tutorials: http://www.hookahfor...la-og-tutorial/ Welcome to the forum! I wouldn't have any worries about the Guru. The people I've talked to on here that have them have told me they smoke just as well as the other KMs. I definitely suggest you try out some Nakhla. It's great stuff. Nak and Tang is all I smoke nowadays. EDIT: Just wanted to add... In my experience, Nakhla has been the easiest shisha to work with in terms of packing and heat management, and Tangiers Noir being the hardest. I don't even own a phunnel yet...) and some Tangiers for when I get back to school. Sine: To answer your question, Nakhla does not need to be acclimated. Vladimir
Generally speaking what I have always seen is that unwashed tobaccos may be acclimated (not that it is always necessary) and unwashed do not need acclimation. I have never felt like acclimation made an ounce of difference (I don't smoke tang mind you). Sometimes I got a crappy flavor so I would try to acclimate it in hopes it would de-crappify, it never did . Unless you trying it for weeks on end, acclimating cannot hurt (though I may not try if the tobacco looked particularly dry) so you might as well give it a whirl and see how it works for you. The bigger impact with acclimating probably will not necessarily be the actual tobacco- but the environment. Just because Vlad in Spokane didn't notice a difference acclimating X unwashed tobacco, does not mean you will now in your climate.

That's always been the loose rule. Acclimate unwashed, don't bother with washed. But again it completely depends on your environment. I'm an hour North of the Tangiers factory. So Tangiers acclimates in about 20 minutes for me and sometimes doesn't need it at all. I sent some to a friend back East and it took over a full day. It's all part of the art form that is the hookah experience. 'Rani
