New Hookah And An Update On An Old Vendor.

Recommended Posts

Well, I said i was done after my glass hookah broke and i bought my 2010 series KM but the hookah gods made me get another one.

I was in San Fransisco and i remembered that GotHookahs.com had a shop there now. So i decided to pay them a little visit. First off, there selection of hookahs is off the hook. A whole wall of the building was just hookahs from floor to ceiling, with more hookahs around the counter top perimeter.

I ending up having a long conversation with the guy that used to run the site and ship everything, though i forget his name now. Sad news is he said that running the site on his own was too tiresome and he just couldnt keep on running it. So those who are hoping the GotHookahs is coming back anytime soon can stop wondering.

Now the good news. THe hookahs at the shop are CHEAP! No KM was over 80. So i decided to go with the double version on this tri-metal: http://www.hookahjohn.com/product.sc?productId=365&categoryId=8

Out the door with a box of coco's the thing was $95. Once again reminding me why everyone liked gothookahs. The pipes are cheap!

Just thought i would send out a update as they have seemed to disepear from the forum scene. (Although he might be browsing now after me showing him pictures of my poncho hookah).

I also shot out some good reviews on crown bowls and tangiers phunnels as he asked me about the glass bowls and what bowls i use the most.

I am so excited as i got to smoke out of it for the first time today and she was smoking like a chemeny. Just like a KM should!

wow, i am JEALOUS! very nice man! you know that pic is of the single tri, not double right? that double tri is usually an expensive hookah! Someone in the area should offer to help him with the site, id love to see that place back up, i remember their pricing was generally lower than most places. i never ordered from them before, so i can't comment on their customer service. Hell, at the price you picked up that double tri, you could almost start buying his hookahs at retail and resell them on here, lol

Anyway, sorry to hear about your glass hookah breaking, i remember hearing about that awhile back. hope you can get it back in commission eventually. and congrats on the nice new hookah, the double tri is gorgeous!

I realized that the link was of the single that's why i said i got the double version of that style. Sadly i am about an hour and 40 min out of the San Fransisco area otherwise i would have gladly taken some pictures and quite possibly picked up and shipped some hookahs for the forum-goers.

The guy also told me they had a new container of KM's on the way and were currently at customs. If anybody is in the SF area and looking for a KM this would be the place to look.

Thanks delsol for the comment, I am sure most know that getty feeling that comes with the new hookah purchase.

yea I have the double version of that hookah too with the painted blue glass base. best hookah I have ever smoked from just wish it was easier to clean lol (outside of it I like to keep it shined up) I cant remember the site but someone has hose tips that match it you just pop the acrylic one out of your nammor or km hose and pop that one in definitely makes the hose look great.

I ordered my first km from their site when it was open, I was so surprised that they were operating 15 minutes from me! Great vendor btw with nice prices too, but I was a little upset to find out that i was charged like $20 for shipping when their warehouse was a quick 15minute pick-up :[

Now they moved to frisco, which would be a 40 minute drive and headache from city commuting. I'll have to take BART (aka metro) there and check it out! Edited by phantastik

I dunno if his difficulties were with filling orders or with site management, but if it's the latter then, despite not living in the area, I'd love to help with the site, if us reads this. My friend and I started a small media company we're trying to get going, and the best way is to help people who already have a client base. :-)

Nice to find a store where you can go in an do the touch/feel thing, especially with KM's.

If I may add, and I hope not to upset anyone with this. I am confident they stopped online because they couldn't sustain at the prices they were selling. They were really undercutting the KM market which sounds great for the consumer but, look at them now. Nobody shuts down a business that is doing good because it is simply "tiresome". You can get help or you can sell it. The fact of the matter is when profits are that slim you will get tired of filling orders. I talk about this with other successful hookah vendors when we discuss pricing. I always said I want to win the customer no matter what, even if I have to drop my pricing. I used to use GH as an example of what I was up against. 3 of them told me to just do what I'm doing, watch, they will be out of business soon. I didn't believe it last year at this time but...they were right.

That's why I get frustrated with vendors selling goods too cheap. It's not because I am defensive and want to make higher profits, it's that burning prices and products really hurts the industry. If GH is out of the game there are reasons. I'll put it to you this way, they had a huge inventory of KM's (still do) at the best prices, were probably outselling the top 3 KM guys last year (TH, HC, H-S) and...guess what....they are out now.
my 2 cents.

Again, if I was any of you and was in their area, I would definitely hit them up and grab a good deal.

the only thing with gH....and if i remember this correctly...they had decent prices on KM's, yet they absolutely KILLED you on shipping...i believe i bought a vase from them and shipping was nearly as much as the vase, shipped from Northern California to SoCal...

I bought a three pipes from them and yeah, their shipping was high. However, I stopped buying before they went offline and here's why. On all three pipes I had gasket issues where the vase gasket was way too thick. The stem wouldn't even come close to fitting in the base with the gasket they sent. That tells me only one thing: They didn't try the fit before shipping it to me. My other pipes came from HC. ( I own 11 all total.) Every single one of them came out of the box in a perfect fit. I know online retailers ship a lot of merchandise but come on, it's a 2 second test to make certain you're sending out components that fit together well and are workable straight out of the box. I insist that this is a normal part of that thing called customer service. I haven't ordered a pipe from John (yet), but intend to one of these days. Based on his general customer service, I have little doubt that when I do, he'll have taken the 2 seconds to make certain he has a happy customer.

I agree with all the replies. It is interesting to see how underpricing can really hurt sometimes but i have to admit i like getting nice KM's for under 100 bucks.

I agree with the fact that GH would kill on shipping. That was one downfall. The other was just like Rani said. My exotica came with a grommet that was way to big too. That's where the store is a win win. If I am an the city anyways its like an extra dollar or so in gas to get to the other side of town to get a hookah that is cheaper than online retail. I can test everything, spot welds and blemishes, trade vases if i dont like the design.

I am not going to lie I am a loyal HJ customer but man it's just a sight to see when you can walk in and just nit pick everything and then walk out knowing what you perchased in and out.

BTW: the hookah got named Twitty last night. Dont ask me how but somebody threw it out there and i was ROTF laughing at that name.
