rhineholt
They finally got me... 53 in a 30. Not too bad. However, It's still a 135 dollar fine and a 4hr driving school class. Now, the real question is.... I have the option to take it online. Would that be easier? Anybody have any experience with both? Thanks.
blagage
I have had my fair share of speeding tickets. Highest so far was 90 in a 65... Speed demon over here. hah but i have never heard of taking it online. But I would assume it would be easier. I say this just because you can have all information with you and get the answers to the questions you may not be sure about. I would say online is the way to go, but definately look it up
Jeff_T
I've only done 1 driving school class and 1 defensive driving class (for going through a stop sign), but both were almost 8 hrs. If I had the choice I'd do the online one. Didn't know they did those...

Jeff_T
I don't think the insurance knows you got a ticket if you do the driving class. Mine never increased and to my knowledge my insurance company wasn't notified about the tickets.

Hopefully that's the way it is. Thanks man. Still taking more suggestions!

I've been there a couple of times, Level 3 gets a little $$$, and seemingly lasts forever. It's not as entertaining as "temper school" was. demonix
damn! your tickets are a lot less than they are here in Cali... I paid $244 w/ driving school for running a stop sign back in July, the $244 is after the judge cleared my proof of insurance (for some reason my dad had my proof of insurance in his car...) and another reduction for just showing up to traffic court. My initial fine was $245 before all the reductions. Guy I know got an $800+ ticket for going 90 in a 65... The online classes are convient if you don't want to have to drive to it, I did it online and it didn't take me too long, maybe 3-4 hours total and I got to do other crap on my computer. If you have to do a quiz for it, I recommend having all the pages for the chapters open in tabs so you have all the information you need and you can CTRL+F the answers in the notes Edited December 30, 2009 by demonix
blagage
The insurance will most likely go up. Taking the driving course is usually instead of getting points on your license
Codename067
Wow, that is ALL that you pay for going 23 miles over the speed limit in residential areas? You are LUCKY! Insurance is bound to go up, BUT, if you keep your record clean for a year [you also have to do Traffic School], this ticket will be erased off your record. fineout
luckily in RI if you have a clean driving record for 3 years you plead good driving record and get away free.
Stuie
....4 hour class... lucky bastards! In Texas your options are 1) Fine(but you can sit in jail the appropriate amount of time to pay it off) - Goes on your driving record 2) Defensive Driving Course (8 hours, mandatory) Online the only way to go. - Stays off record and 10% off Auto Insurance 3) Live more than a county over, Deferred Adjudication, Pay small fine, no more offenses for 90 days - stays off your record 4) In some counties under the age of 18, Teen Court. This essentially puts your fate in your "Minor Peers" hands, and are pissed off they are there also... not a good scenario, but it stays off your record.... wish I never did it. Vladimir
Everyone stop telling him what he has to do and what is going to happen- every state is different. In Washington state for example we have no points, you can defer one ticket every seven years (erase it from your record- and it stays erased unless you get a second ticket within one year). Every state is different! Hell, even every region is different- where I used to live (still in Washington state) the prosecutors office would change a speeding ticket to a tabs violation if you had a good record... the difference? One is not a moving violation and will not be reported to insurance.

Arcane
Greg...sorry to tell you man, but I think you're in trouble. The police are probably going to confiscate your hookahs and pee in your tobacco for going more than 3mph over the speed limit. Most likely...it'll be your gf's dad to piss in your tobacco. He doesn't like you much anyways.... haha!! just kidding...hopefully this doesn't inconvenience you much...at least, lesson learned...
Brandon`
Thats why you get a radar jammer and a radar detector... I haven't been pulled over with either and I speed right past cops and they can't do anything because they can't get how fast i'm going. So worth the 700 bucks for both combined... Speeding puts others at risk when driving... more braking distance... if someone cuts you off or something happens in front of you... Stuie
According to the statistics last time I took the course... 41% of all accidents are caused by people driving too slow. 28% Alcohol related Speeding and Teenage drivers make up the rest.
Brandon, I don't know about where you live, but here in TN cops can detect this shit in your car, and are EVEN more likely to pull you over, just cause it pisses them off. A cop told me they have newer equipment that bypasses all that shit anyway, making it totally useless to have... BUT that's here in TN, don't know about where you live.... Would I spend $700 just to be able to speed? Hell no. As to the OP, here in TN the insurance company is notified of EVERY FREAKIN' SINGLE ACCIDENT OR TICKET that you're involved in, your fault or not, unless the police aren't brought into it, which I'm strongly against because the other party ends up always screwing you over... I always call the cops... But that's a different story... Here in TN we only have eight-hour classes and no online ones that I'm aware of, so you're lucky. Most likely your insurance will be informed. Blagage is right- driving schools are for keeping your points on your record to a minimum. Here in TN points fall off your record after three years. Insurance rates go down after three years from an accident as well. So I think your insurance company will be finding out about it and they will probably raise your insurance. Don't expect to just get away scott-free. Most likely it will happen. How else would insurance companies make so much money? It was your first offense, so overall I'd say you're lucky... I had to take an eight-hour driving school when I totaled my first vehicle (technically my fault, but the other person didn't have their headlights on, meaning I didn't see them when I pulled out...), but I still got four points on my record and insurance went up. I was 16. Second accident I hydroplaned and totaled my Mustang, nobody else involved, just tore up a sign pretty bad (I want to also note I was going same speed as everyone else... the 99-04 Mustangs have VERY light backends)- got another 3 points added to my record, and my license taken away for 6 months... So I was halfway into being 18 when I got it back. Insurance went up as well for this accident. I don't know about my points now that I'm 19, but I know I'm as watchful as a hawk and careful when I drive... Nothing, even speeding, is worth losing your license over... This reminds me... Damn I hated how that new "Hayden's Law" went into effect in TN JUST in time for me... Damn 14 year-old kid driving drunk almost killed a woman and her unborn child, who was named Hayden when they had to do an emergency c-section. The parents went on to petition tougher laws for teen drivers... Meaning if you get over 6 points on your record you're fucked. LUCKILY, the hearing officer was nice and only took it away for 6 months instead of a year like she was supposed to. So a 14 yr-old DRUNK kid made me lose my license where I didn't hurt anybody... But hey, I got lucky with the whole 6 months deal... I just thank my gf that she was there for me to be my chauffeur, lol. You guys have no idea how itching I was to drive my Focus when I got my license back... I still think about how I lost my license EVERYTIME I drive... Wow, this turned out way longer than I expected... But I rarely talk about all this, so I guess it was good to get it all out... Rhine, best of luck to you. Brandon, sell that shit and slow down, my friend. It's not worth it.
