Hooka_bears
So I've got myself some Lucid M. Cherry and everytime i've been using any lucid flavor the top layer ALWAYS burns. i take the foil off about 20 minutes in and a bunch of the tobacco is stuck to it and all burned. I'm not packing it too much like some of you do, and im only using 2 CH QLs and it still burns. Any ideas? Maybe just pack it less? Im not sure how you guys pack it so tight and it doesn't burn with 2-4 coals on it.
ryno
It it burning to the point its effecting the flavor? Reason being, that top layer will usually get stuck to the foil, and thats normal.
Hooka_bears
Yeah I mean it seems to lose all flavor, mostly just tastes like burnt tobacco. Maybe with 1:4 pulls tasting somewhat like the flavor.
Bulldog_916
2 problems. 1 you're not using enough tobacco. 2 you're using too much coal. Those CH QLs burn pretty hot. I would either turn them up on their side or break them into halves and use them that way.
Hooka_bears
Well i think im using enough tobacco, i mean i have a small phunnel and im packing it a bit over the brim and doing the fork/foil test thingy. I dont pack it like and inch over and then jam it down, but i think there enough, ill try it though. I just dont see how people can get away it 3-4 coals and say it lasts 5 hours. Bulldog_916
You said you werent packing it too much like some of us do. That to me sounds like code for you think it's enough. Perhaps try a few more pinches and make absolutely sure its dense in there, not like you cant pack anymore in there if you tried, but firm. Then use less heat. Tangiers is a more heat sensitive type of shisha.
Jacob Shock
250 grams of tangiers should fill a small phunnel no more than 7 times. tangiers is a touchy brand. i assume its acclimated right so im not even giveing you a speach. remeber tang smokes best with alot of bigger holes, and less heat. maybe split your coals into halves. this allows you to better contraol the heat of the bowl. liquidglass
Well Jacob, I understand your theory for the number of times it'll fit in a small phunnel, but honestly it doesn't make sense in my book. Personally I would say around 10 bowls without reusing any unburned tobacco (on an average small). But that's just me.
Chreees
Yeah, I'm with Liquid, Jacob... I get more than 7 bowls out of 250g if I don't reuse unburnt tobacco, which I usually do... As for the OP, sounds like you need to pack it tighter. Report back.

[/quote] well, i'm trying not to state the obvious...but, you just said that you're not putting in as much as everyone else is and it's burning....yet, everyone else who's putting in more tobacco doesn't burn it.... ummmm.....well, yeah....if you're new to tangiers, you really have to get out of the mindset of treating it like any other brands you smoked...if you find yourself saying, "well, that's twice as much as i use for AF or Nakhla", you're already in the wrong mindset. don't compare it to any other tobaccos...there really is nothing like Tangiers on the market. so, you're starting from scratch and treat it as such. you also seem to think that adding more tobacco increases the chance of it burning...however, from my experience the opposite is true. more tobacco means more heat tolerance. Arcane
Chris/Liquid: i'm jealous....i usually get around 5-6 bowls from my small. either i got screwed on the smalls or you guys just use a lot less tobacco than me.

dizzbizz
Yeah, you need more tobacco.
fillup
Honestly I think it could be too much heat. From my findings, QL's tend to burn hotter than natural coals. You might want to try to break the coals in half and use only 3 pieces spread out. I personally use naturals and break them into halves like most people. One thing I find myself doing is starting the bowl off with 3 halves than going down to 2 untill they start to burn down. Another thing Ive hated with QL's is that they tend to have a burny taste to begin with. Last night I sadly ran out of coco's found a few rolls of QL's that I got awhile ago. I threw one on the bowl and had to kill it just because of that burny charcoaly taste.

hookah hippie
sounds like a case of a bit too low on the tobacco and too high on heat find the middle my friend
Hooka_bears
Yeah it was definitely underpacked. Put a bit more in and was getting monster clouds/flavor with 2-3 coals. My apologies for doubting some of you. Thanks for the help!

Sonthert
I got here late. Sorry. A less packed bowl is going to allow you to use less charcoal, so scale back the charcoal, break the pieces in half before lighting. Using more tobacco can help if you are rather set on the amount of tobacco you are using.
