Sounds like it might be rust from a dirty hose. Do you clean your hose (wash if washable/blow through it before and after sessions if not)? taxx
I blow out the hose regularly and I blew it out before the use wehre I got an extreme amount in my mouth. Once and a while i used to get just lil bits, but yesterday was liek WHOA
Stuie
It wasn't shisha. It's almost impossible to do it. It's rust. Water can get in the hose and start reacting inside the non washable hoses and breaking down the coil. Rust is a cascading effect. Just because you blew it out doesn't mean you won't have more breaking free within minutes of smoking. Time for a new hose.

Vladimir
I think it can also be little wood particles if you have wooden handles. My old hoses had this problem, pretty confident it was NOT rust.

I think it is from when i wash it. all the gunk that was along the whole hose has now been dissolved and dried in the droplets of water that are left.I think the flecks are concentrated smoke.
That is the nastiest feeling ever, isn't it? If you have a washable hose, definitely run some water thru it. If not, try one of those computer air cleaners and blow a high powered stream of air thru. You might just have to get a new hose. BJ

As for it being shisha, just think about it. The ash/shisha would have to go down the downstem, in the water, up through the air, and into the hose. Arcane
if the "sand" is black...its rust... if you have wooden handles/tips, and the "sand" is white-ish/yellow-ish....it's just wood particles... i have a few wooden handles and every now and then a wood particle would come loose... liquidglass
When you blow out the hose are the particles that come out white? or are they black/red shiny? I'm 99.9% positive it's rust plaguing you man. I've had wooden tipped hoses and it was very very rare that I ever got any wood pieces. If it's happening very often it's rust. Hate to hear it happened. BUT when your new hose comes in rip open your old one and you'll never buy a non washable again.

Basically when I ripped them apart nothing but rust pretty much. My old KM hose was even worse. Before I took them all apart I blew air into one end and watch a shower of rust colored confetti come out of the other end. Trust me, if you do take yours apart you will be astounded at the shit you have inhaled and you'll never get a non-washable again.
delSol_si
you don't have to wash a nonwashable hose for rust to form. since shisha contains glycerine, and glycerine extracts moisture, all you have to do is smoke and the glycerine will make water form in the hose, causing rust. or at least this is my theory. But either way, ive had a non washable hose start rusting when i hadn't even washed it. then again, i smoke a lot of layalina which is really juicy, pretty much soup.
I don't think anyone was arguging. I agree with your theory, I have NEVER washed non-washable hoses but of course they form water vapor inside and rust anyway. Which makes sense because of the hot smoke hitting the room temperature water, developing a vapor that would travel into the hose.
Vladimir
When I had my wood handled hoses I blew them out with an air compressor (which I bought to clean my guns, and find it invaluable for cleaning EVERYTHING- from guns to hookahs to bowls to computers and keyboards, etc)... it would severely cut back on the particles but not eliminate completely. I am not really a big fan of my aftermarket hose (not to dump on the hose itself, I am not a fan of big handles and the huge gauge- though I am growing to like it as I get used to it)- but I use it/bought it because shit doesn't come out of it , and that part is very nice!
