Need Some Hose Wisdom

Recommended Posts

I am looking at getting a new hose if what I am looking for exists, which is where everyone's collective knowledge comes into play...

I currently use a Nammor hose. I really like it and I don't have big problem with it. My only gripe is the hose is super stiff. Its more of a personal preference really, but I'd like a hose thats more flexible but still has the easy draw of a Nammor and fully washable (and also looks cool). Anything worth looking into? I can't really find much information by just reading about them on vendor sites so I am in need of some user feedback!

Thanks

Yeah my nammors always been kinda stiff also.....

I have a caravan hose that is extremely flexible, the outside is like a faux velvet or suede type material.
Its completely washable too.
I bought it from a local shop in St. Louis but im sure you can find them online.

Caravan hose = washable, large diameter, completely flexible, and i bought mine for 15 bucks.

Edit; The hookah has some Grand Caravan hose
And ive had mine for a little over a year and it shows no signs of age whatsoever. Edited by tpatt90

I don't find my hose stiff very stiff... <----Sig it, I know you wanna.

Seriously though, I have the Nammor and in terms of stiffness I don't find it very stiff compared to the Narbish I guess. If you're looking for flexible, probably a standard Mya hose is your best bet... All of the washables are going to be that same "stiff" kinda hose...

Ya, I just can't go back to those smaller Mya hoses anymore...its just so easy to draw on the nammor! Maybe I just have unrealistic expectations.

Thanks to everyone else for recommendations. I'm gonna look into them and do some more research.

Seriously guys... begging to get sigged is so... guido/broish... to draw from a previous thread.

"LaWl SoMeThInG ReCoCkUlUs... plz sig me"
We aren't begging to be sigged... We're just acknowledging the fact that what we're saying is going to be taken as a sexual innuendo and that there's a high chance of us being sigged...

EDIT: And never, EVER again say something I said sounds "broish"...

this thread has potential for a lot of sigs lol. i mean stiff hooses, limp hoses... this is gonna get bad lol...

in regards to the op though i have a nammor hose and mine is pretty flexablie i dont have any problems with it. maybe the cleaning with hot water has helped it become more limber

Most badass hose ever del... I feel like my razan is pretty flexible and not to stiff (it's like 2 years old, so that could be why).

I use a Razan hose and a MYA Washable hose. MYA Washable when I don't feel like taking a big hose along with me on trips. The Razan, Nammor, and Grand hose all are going to be a little stiff due to the fact they are wider and practically all three are same hose in design with little differences. Regular hoses tend to be more flexible due to not being as wide in diameter. The MYA Washable is cheap and fully washable and a lot more flexible then the bigger, wider hoses. The drawback is that the pull is not as easy as your Nammor or Razan. Got to weigh the pros and cons.

Have any of you tried the wide-body Myas yet?
They really aren't much better than a normal mya hose. Maybe a little. But not a whole lot

I can tell the age of my nammors by how stiff they are. I have a nammor for 2 years it's pretty flexible comparatively to new ones.

I like the pull on the grand, but they are too light...it like to have some weight in my hose handles.

Leather hoses. For sure. Its a good enough material for S&M, its a good enough material for hoses.

That Caravan hose, you linked is the regular Caravan Hose and unless they changed how they were being made, its made with plastic coils, not stainless steel.

I've never seen the need for a washable hose. 4 leather hoses that you don't wash should be satisfactory. Nobody complains about how my hookahs smoke and I never use washable/never wash my hoses. The head pieces of leather hoses, yeah, remove them, give them a quick brush and rinse. Thats the only part that really needs washing...whichever kind of hose you have, I would think.

What kind of hoses do you use? I've always been under the impression that washable is the way to go? Wouldn't non-washable get really nasty after a while with no way to clean them? Out of the unwashable hoses, which ones are wide like nammors?

I use leather hoses, either Thamseh or KM. I've never had a problem. I have hoses that are 5 and 6 years old I retired that still don't smell like anything. Not like leather so much, any more, but like generic hookah smell. The mint hoses might have a very faint mint aroma, but that's about it. Like I said, cleaning out the headpiece is the only thing that is necessary. They're removable on good leather hoses. All leather hoses are wide (that I've seen) like the Nammor. I recycle and reuse wooden stem pieces too. They don't impart flavor that I've seen.

The only problem comes from some old brass-cased headpieces. They can impart a metallic flavor. Since I haven't seen a new one in 4 years, I think that problems really quite minor. :)

Eric, can you be more specific on which hoses you use? We're currently using Razans, Nammors, and Grands at our lounge but are looking for something smaller and less expensive to use with our lowest tier (QT's). Also, do you think the fact that you use different hoses for different flavors has something to do with why you don't get ghosting complaints? We have too many flavors and/or not enough hoses to have that kind of setup so I'm not sure if we would see the same success.

Well, to a degree...but I would imagine a collection of old hoses would have some bias on terms of smell if they were separated by flavor. Pitted fruits would smell like peach/apricot, melons would smell melony, bunch fruits would smell berry-like. None exists on my old hoses. Like I said, one mint hose has a very slight mintishness to it, but the other ones (including another mint hose) doesn't. They're all marked for the flavors they came from. Cleaning the head piece does about as much as needs to be done. I would go so far as to say, if most washable hoses came with removable head pieces, you wouldn't need to wash the main section.

Leather hoses don't seem to pick up transient flavors as much as pleather does. For the wholesale people, they are cheaper/the same price. Since you can replace the hose section if it dies, its much cheaper. Tangiers seems to inhibit rust on them or they don't rust as frequently. I think its the Tangiers/molasses.

We only use 14 different hose/hookah variations and it works nicely.

Note all these comments are in regards to Tangiers. I make nor offer an opinion regarding the use of hoses with other brands. Some brands of tobacco use very dirty flavorings that stick like crazy. I tried smoking some blue flower the other night at Hookah Company out of a hose that had fuzzy navel smoked out of it. The orange terpene flavor never subsided. That being said, water wouldn't have taken out the terpene either. The flavors that impact the flavors the most aren't water soluble so washing them with water ain't gonna help. Get some beer or rubbing alcohol, then we can work with that. :)
