I have just quit Tangiers. No more. Not ever again. I've gotten 5 out of 60 bowls to smoke right (that's right, I've counted). I have done EVERYTHING. I can never get that crap to smoke well. It's ridiculous. Mind you, those 5 bowls were f'n incredible. Having said that, about four months ago I started smoking nothing but AF, some Starbuzz, and the Mizo Nakhla and I've been soooooooo much happier. I never have problems. I just sit down and smoke. Everything is happy. The hookah is fun again. I've just come to the realization that obviously this stuff depends on where you live and I can't support a product like that.

I order my tobacco from this store here in Los Angeles. Really cool guys. They refuse to sell Tangiers. A year ago, I asked them why. The guy responded, "I could never get that stuff to smoke right. I got so frustrated with it, that I got a group of my friends to drive up to Eric's personal shop and smoke one that he set up for me. It was harsh and tasted exactly like it did at my house. Never again."

My sentiments exactly.

I never got tangiers to acclimate correctly, I've talked to a number of other people who agree with me that tangiers wont acclimate in indiana (unless you live in the right area)..and to me thats complete bullshit. So i ordered some lucid, and am kind of sad that i did. I could have ordered 5 packs of nakhla for the price of 3 things of lucid, and I get way more flavor and smoke from nakhla than i have from the lucid...
I know several people in Indiana that don't have any problems. It has to be where you live and nothing you're doing wrong, correct?

Well like I've said before, I move all over northern IN and have had great tang sessions in lafayette, fort wayne, muncie, indy, noblesville, valpo, and several others.... so I don't think the climate is the issue. Maybe you're just not used to the characteristic density of tangiers clouds?

Good example. :)

Oh yeah, Hegel FTW. One of the best parts of "Apocalypse Now" is when Dennis Hopper is explaining dialectical reasoning to Captain Willard. You can go into space on fractions. You can't land on 3/8 or 1/4 of the moon.

K1024: I would venture to guess problems with regular Tangiers AND Lucid are a systematic problem. Especially if you smoke lots of mint or citrus flavors in Nakhla. These aren't magical problems just with Tangiers. They are common problems that might seem magnified with Tangiers...but are a combination of problems.

DizzBizz: That might be too much charcoal. How much and what kind of charcoal are you using?
I used three whole coconaras.
I think most people using Coconaras use 1.5-2 Cocos, split in halves.
I agree Eric. 3 whole coconaras is like chugging a bottle of everclear... you look hardcore then but you regret it tomorrow morning.

I am using 3 Canaries on a small phunnel or 3 - 1/2 cocos in a triangle pattern and thrown on the windcover at a bout 30 minutes. Coconut Coals burn hot... even the crappy ones.

Very true. I'll cut some in half when I pack my other bowl. I'm acclimating some Orange Soda, hopefully it turns out good tonight.

maybe, except that the climate fluctuates so often here that its impossible to keep it acclimated. the only non lucid tangiers ive gotten to work here is fline orange soda, it was awesome...but i smoked it right out of the bag. then the shisha proceeded to go from delicious orange smelling to tobacco/citrus smell.

i never said that i couldn't get lucid to smoke, or that it wasn't good.

i dont smoke much mint, and i wash my hookah regularly so it wouldn't be that...i spent a lot of time reading packing methods/watching videos and acclimating tangiers, for a product that never worked.

I attempted to acclimate the OG Orange Soda earlier today, but I gave up cause I thought it was pointless. Smoked some tonight and it was even better than it was before when I did acclimate it..?
Edit: Unless... I only acclimated it for an hour and a half(3:30pm-5:00pm) but I acclimated it outside, where I smoke, but I smoke at night(usually at 10pm). Its a whole lot colder at night than it is at 5pm. Does temp effect it or is it the humidity and other factors? If temperature isn't a main factor I think I just solved my problem Edited by mushrat
edit by mushrat to keep Dizz from getting savaged. :)

I believe dew point is the main factor, that's a measure of absolute humidity. Relative humidity is just the amount of water in the air. From what I understand, dew point can stay relatively stable in the day.
So as long as the temperature isn't drastic enough to effet the dew point, acclimating it at different times shouldn't matter?

Acclimating at the time you smoke may help to protect you against any sudden changes and be sure it stays acclimated when you smoke. I Think what happens is people open the container and it smells good, the shisha is acclimated to the condition in the container, when the air suddenly comes in, it's different than the condition in the container, things go a little crazy. There's a hang or delay in the time it takes for the shisha to swing back to what the condition is outside the container. Think of over-correcting your steering when you're trying to straighten your car in a skid. You over-correct, then you swing back a little to correct the over-correction. So let the shisha breath and go into that shock period, for 4 hours (the 4-hour window you normally smoke in), then seal it up for 20, then come back to it and it should be acclimated for your next-day smoke session. The 4 hours open was the over-correction, the 20 that it's sealed back up is the correction and stabilization of the over-correction. Make sense?

the real question is why do so many of you have troubles with this stuff. When i can get it in stock (please call me eric) i make many many ,many bowls of it a day in my Lounge. It isn't rocket science and I have taught every one of my employees to make Tangiers correctly in almost every basic bowl out there. We can pack it a standard and large Mya bowls, mini, small, and large phunnels, Old Smiley Pyrex bowls, I really just don't understand. Also, a lot of time people don't like it because it isn't some Candy Assed metro brand that makes your teeth ache smoking they are so sweet. Now dont get me wrong, I like and smoke many brands i would put in that catagory, but I serve a lot of it for a reason. Maybe it just isn't your style, groovy, don't order it, more for the rest of us.

So when did you move to LA?

Temperature is a minor factor. If the temperature drops, the capacity of the air to hold moisture goes down, but the dewpoint usually stays put.
Great. I think that solved my problem, because I used to acclimate inside when I smoke outside. Such a simple solution.

Yeah. The simple problems are sometimes the hardest. Well done, sir. You played a fine match.

I think the large majority of people who have trouble with OG on this forum don't have a packing problem, but rather just the acclimation issue.
