No offense seefoodlover but it sounds like the classic symptoms of too much CO, no need to see a dr. for it.

Seriously 1) make sure your coals are completely lit, 2) make sure you have holes that aren't covered by coal, 3) try using less coals, 4) don't put them in the very center of the bowl no matter what you're doing.

and take time inbetween inhales as well as have fresh air coming near by.

I was under the impression that It takes a long while to reach 30% CO in bloodlevel to get those nasty side effects.
CO has 80x affinity to red blood cells than oxygen. So no, it only takes a few mins for the CO to accumulate in your body...
Be careful, and smoke in a ventilated area, and if you begin to feel bad stop and get some fresh air, and consult a doctor if you still have heart symptoms..

Or just try to smoke something else and report back.. maybe you just dont tolerate SB well for a reason

See, I really doubt that. According to health advisories on CO, depending on the PPM of CO a hookah puts off, which I don't think could even reach 100ppm, it would take a few hours of constant exposure to see any side effects(30-35% or more CO bloodlevel). If it does get to 100 ppm CO then a two hour session could cause such side effects, but I read of people exceeding this without any adverse effects. I really doubt it when people say too much CO...

If 30% of your red blood cells are saturated with CO,(30% blood level) you're pretty much dead or at the intensive care unit of your nearby hospital.
You're confusing % of red blood cells saturated with CO and PPM (concentration of CO per million particles in the air)

I agree with you that hookah smoking shouldnt get anywhere near that concentration though,
At 100 ppm, you get light headed and headaches in a few hours though.

I just wanted the poster to be careful because CO intoxication is a serious condition.

Nononono, I thought it was 50% or higher that got you into that much trouble. No I'm not confusing the two, I'm stating the amount of time it would take below and up to 100 ppm CO to get to the 30% and beyond adversity point. Even at 400 ppm CO it still takes over an hour to have adverse affects... Edited by Red_Pyramid

I have been interested in brands other than Tangiers adding stuff to their tobacco, like dipropylene glycol or diglycerol . I have no evidence of this being used, of course, I tried some diglycerol (D-G) on an experimental batch of Tangiers, and had gotten a flavoring years ago with dipropylene glycol (D-PG) in it. The D-PG was much worse, I experienced sweating, faintness, heart palpitations, nervousness, tension, muscle pain and it felt like somebody was standing on my chest. The D-G was less pronounced, but I felt a certain similar heaviness/tightness in the chest. Do your symptoms compare with these?

I haven't heard of any other reports like this from Starbuzz, though. One guy I talked to said his mother and girlfriend got similar reactions to several other brands of tobacco, but didn't specify which ones they were. I kinda put off his comments at the time. Nakhla, I've noticed it with to a small degree. Not as bad as the experimental batch I made, but somewhat noticeable. D-G is also quite thick. I put the thickness of Nakhla off to the Corn Syrup base for a long time, now I compare the feel of D-G to glycerine, I can't really see that much glycerine in Nakhla. It also explains the differences in acclimation. The experimental Tangiers was perfectly acclimated. D-G would act similar to a dessicant. I should also add that Nakhla's formula seems to have changed in the past three years. It used to be so thick, you needed to chisel it off the brick. Now, its much looser than it used to be.

I don't know that these chemicals are hazardous as such. It may be that they simply dry out the nasal and sinus cavities a lot.

Weird problem man, seeing how it only happens to you when you smoke SB.

CO is what I am aiming for, although Starbuzz isn't really known for that.

make sure the windcover isnt touching the coals.I remember I bought a windocover and my sessions tasted like melted copper I immediatly threw that shit in the trash. Actually it wasnt even touching the metal, just be careful with the windcovers can give off some terrible fumes as well
