My Damaged Hoses From John @ Hookahjohn.Com

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone, it's Elliott here to share my recent experience ordering from John, of HookahJohn.com. This is not a vendor review, but a cause for discussion. I've had issues and would like your advice.

TLDR: Order placed 12/14, KM 2010 hose was damaged. I posted in his vendor thread and John immediately asked me to email him. He offered a Narbish hose at his cost ($12) since he was out of stock of the KM 2010, but later let me know since I was interested in placing another order to try Nakhla Mizo flavors that he would include the Narbish with my order. Order placed 1/6, Narbish is damaged. Thoughts? What resolution should I seek, if any?

My Observations: John ships fast and has great communication. Both orders I've placed were sent out the same day and anytime I've contacted him I've received a response sooner than expected. His orders appear to be well packaged (see the 5th image from my 2nd order; order #4216 arrived in the brown box and order #4536 arrived in the green al fakher box), and the boxes don't appear to be heavily damaged. My concern is that John might be selling damaged product, of course not maliciously and unlikely due to poor packaging.

Order arrived in bubble wrap with the Tangiers Small Phunnel individually wrapped. The barrel of the hose near the mouthpiece is dented, and my greatest concern is that the hose may be cracked beneath the sheathing. I've used the hose a few times now and don't appear to have any issues. Depending on the angle of the hose it either is indented or appears bent in one direction. The damage is over a small area on an otherwise solid barrel, and could be likened to something being hit by a hammer.

The order was surrounded with crinkled brown paper, but the hose is crushed at one point. The damage is over a soft part of the hose and wider than the damage to the KM 2010 hose, it could be likened to someone stomping on it with their heel. EDIT: to clarify the pictures of the two boxes; the brown box is from my first order, the green al fakher box is from my second order.

Wait, so you got a $12 Narbish that is known to be defective to replace a 2010 hose that you paid $25.99 for?

Um... I'd be asking to get a 2010 hose repalcement when they get back in stock...

Execept the 2010 is a handmade product that may not be defective at all, and its not like he had to return the 2010, he's got two hoses now. I would leave things at that and go on your merry way my friend, john has already given you quite the deal to replace a product that could have just been made that way, if it functions and doesn't leak it's not broken.

The KM hose damage is minimal and pretty much all Egyptian products even KM are going to have cosmetic blemishes. It is not acceptable when you pay top dollar you should be taken care of if the product is defective. The Narb looks like shipping damage he needs to send you a new one and he should file a claim with his shipping company to be reimbursed for the damage and shipping costs. Just my 2 cents.

Well, I just looked at the post and saw where he said the 2010 smokes fine... Really in the pics the dent in the 2010 doesn't look that bad. And since it smokes fine I don't really see what the problem is. Victim, you're right- they're handmade, just like the Narbish. The replacement Narbish IS defective for sure though- that gash in the hose looks pretty bad. Elliot, I think you should just ask John to send you another $12 Narbish, one without any gashes in the hose part, or you should just accept what you've got now.

ok so you are calling a hose that is handmade and the handle isn't perfectly straight busted? is it still airtight? is there a hole in it? cuz i don't see one, just use it if it works and if there is a small dent shoot john an email so he knows how not to pack it next time. and if it is just the hose that is dented run a metal coat hanger in it and pop it out

Thanks for all the input so far. I honestly feel that the damage to the KM 2010 is worse than the pictures make it out to be, and was initially beyond pleased by John's willingness to send me a Narbish. I also never had to send anything back, so I have a KM 2010 with a significant dent that could possibly be cracked or worse than it appears, but for the time being smokes fine. I have not used the Narbish yet, and the mouthpiece is still secured to the hose.

i would like to point out that the 2010 KM is probably not cracked...i tore apart one of my KM hoses awhile back and it was rolled up recycled paper for the handle and paper doesnt crack. id check the 2010 for leaks. im not voicing my opinion on waht i would do b/c i would have to see the hoses in person and i don't know what i would do to be honest.

i don't believe egyptians know what quality control is. i probably would not have asked for a replacement of the 2010 hose BUT since you did pay 12 bucks for the narb and it showed up like that, he should DEFINITELY replace that at no cost to you. i seriously doubt he realized that either one was damaged. the damage on the 2010 appears only noticeable to someone who is either closely inspecting it or notices it while smoking, not something bad enough to notice while one is shoving it in a box. no. 2: i think we all know the way the narbs are packaged, coiled up in a plastic bag. with that much hose next to each other, i seriously doubt he saw them. i know john does spot checks on those narbs, but it just isn't practical for him to meticulously inspect every piece. i'm sure he'll replace the narb.

I'm slightly curious about the Narbish now that you made the comment that the mouthpiece was still secure, which leads me to believe that you have one with a glued in mouthpiece. The glued in mouthpieces haven't been used since V1, the current V3 has a detachable mouthpiece, so he may have sent you one of the original old hoses.

hi duckah, we still need to resolve this, first the replacement narb should have taken care of our issue but the one you got looks like someone literally bit it. idk if it's v1 or v3, I can't remember but there is 1 easy way to know, if it has a sticker on the hose near the end that goes into the pipe and it says NARBISH on it you got a v3. With that said not all v1's are completely defective. i have thrown away the ones that are obviously defective and kept the decent to good ones for sale. as others have said the 2010 isn't that bad but i wanted to do something to make things right like comp a narb. it's just a shame that the narb was that bad. email me to straighten it out, i will work on better packaging, i just recycle once in awhile. definitely hope to keep your orders coming.
