thehelios
"It's not our intent to penalize hookah bars. We just don't want to start making exceptions that are adverse to healthy consequences, give me a fucking break." Give me a fuck!ng break! Such a load of crap. Wth do they call the country clubs and cigar bars? Are country clubs not succeptible to second hand smoke b/c if they were, that'd be news to me. I hope as hell this law gets changed quickly. I'm tired of seeing hookah bars having to change for laws like this. While I was in Houston, the only time I ever saw people smoke indoors, other than hookah bars, was in Denny's or at a Pool hall. That's it. But now they've adopted the same foolish laws just to appease public dissent.
SloppyJoe
according to the cdc, hookahs do NOT emit second hand smoke. No sidestream smoke, check it out. Mush I can't find anything on CDC where they state this. Care to provide a source?

Tenessee did the best they could with this smoking thing. Any establishment that wishes to allow smoking must be 21 and older because adults are smart enough to not go there or work there if they don't like smoking. Kids may not have that choice. AND, what do you do when someone goes "i want a discount or I'll file a complaint!" kick them out? they will just file a complaint. give them the discount? then others will follow. Twisted
"It's not our intent to penalize hookah bars. We just don't want to start making exceptions that are adverse to healthy consequences" Uh, hello? Is that person thinking logically? If you know what a hookah is, you know its not healthy, thus taking the consequences, if any, that come with it. I really hope you can get this overturned. kywhaley
In Ohio the smoking ban laws don't apply if it is a members only bar. You could have a $1.00 yearly membership fee. (one free drink to new members) Make up some kind of little legal sign off saying they know what type of club they are joining. give them some kind of membership card and call it a day. hope this helps

seefoodlover
essentially a hookah bar is the same thing as a cigar bar. only you smoke hookah not cigars, so you could market that if you wanted. Also I think your big problem is your food. In FL, you may permit smoking in a bar if 30% or less of the revenue comes from food sales. So most cigar bars just serve snacks or no food at all. I'm not entirely sure about NC law, so I'm sorry, I can't really help you
