rahl071
I know it's something that supposedly makes phunnels smoke better, but does anyone have a picture/explanation/link as to how it works?

Sariél
That is about the shisha saver, not the mod. It works in conjunction with the mod. The mod redirects airflow so that more air goes through the tobacco instead of straight down the hole. It also keeps the foil from pulling down and sealing the hole, stopping airflow altogether. Additionally, it takes up some space so you use less tobacco.
rahl071
much appreciated. i just ran a steel spike through one of the holes i poked horizontally across the intake hole in the phunnel. Someone on this forum gave me the idea of using a toothpick, instead i just used a steel rod. i'm using a lot of shisha still though. You guys were a huge help, thanks! Chreees
Here's my mod: Take a tealight candle, and do this: This way you don't have to actually pay money for a little piece of metal... This is much cheaper/easier to do. As Sariel said, it uses less shisha, and forces more air through the tobacco, and makes the flavor more intense and gives denser clouds (for me anyway). sine
But as a disclaimer, I wouldn't use a mod if you're smoking tangiers... I use it for tobaccos that I'd normally pack in an Egyptian, and it works wonders. Tangiers will really roast if you try to force air through it, it's much more heat sensitive. I actually wrote off Tangiers for like a year because whenever I packed it with my mod, it made me sick as a dog and tasted horrible (read: burned). But then I read how to pack it properly in a phunnel sans mod, and it worked beautifully. However, now that I think of it, I was probably packing the bowl too loosely when I used the mod... I'll have to give it another try...
dizzbizz
Does the mod affect the ease of pulling? Cause that to me looks like you're turning a Phunnel bowl in to a vortex and my vortex's pull sucks.
ih303
I'm sure some people will disagree, but I get much better pulls on a phunnel without any mod. I really don't see what the hype is about mods. When I first found out about them, I was excited since it sounds so good in theory. I've tried several styles of tealight mod and a scalli mod. I've never been able to get anything as good as what I get from a phunnel without a mod. I've got some questions, though. I got a glass phunnel and scalli mod from a forum member a while back. The setup I got is extremely small - like smaller than the diameter of a Mya mod bowl. What sizes do those glass phunnels come in and what size is mine? Also, did they make those scalli mods in different sizes? I originally thought I could use a scalli mod on a Tangiers Phunnel, but it's way to small. Any thoughts on this?
