Strange Hookah, Help!

Recommended Posts

So during my vacation in India I picked up an interesting hookah. The problem is it just doesn't work like a typical hookah. I'm beginning to think I bought a $35 decoration.

Anyway, I had the servant cut a gas pipe and put it in the hookah so the smoke would pass through the water... but it's still pretty harsh and not much smoke is produced.

I'll attach a picture of the hookah and if anyone is familiar with the style and how/if I can make it work to the best of it's potential, let me know!

P.S. Sorry for the quality!

I'm just a noob, but I'll give you my thoughts till someone more experienced replys. If your smoke is harsh, your shisha is too hot. There are threads about heat management. If your smoke is thin, you have air seal problems. Take a good long pull and listen for air leaking in where it shouldn't. Be careful not to burn your head when you stick your ear up to your pipe. Another way to check is if you have a decent amount of smoke in the pipe, blow back into the hose and see if smoke comes out anywhere other than your bowl (or purge valve if you have one). Thick smoke is made in the bowl and it you have an airtight path from the bowl to your mouth you should be smoking like a freight train. Experts, correct me if i'm wrong.

If I'm not mistaken that looks like its a tombak pipe. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I believe those pipes were made without downstems.

I think you're right. After doing some research online I found that the hookah is meant for "Tombak" and you're supposed to put the coal directly on top.

The good news is I was able to find online the exact hookah I LOVED to smoke at a place called "Brown Sugar" in Delhi.

Now I just need some pan rasna flavor!
