The Dude Abides
Hey there. I would highly reccommend getting one of tangiers' bowls. I always used the various normal clay/ceramic bowls and figured there was no improvement, but I then purchased a tangiers "large premium." It works really, really good. Sure it holds a horrendous amount of maassell, but other things I like about it are that it gives me a large expanse of territory to move my coals around on--always supplying me with a new location to unearth fresh tobacco. Also, the "handles" stay cool to the touch because they're so long, so you can easily pick the hot bowl up without getting burned. Plus they look badass. Oggie505
the tangiers bowl is nice and big. Good if more than one person is gonna smoke or you want a long smoke. I think the mya bowl is ok, I did not liek the fact that it was not glazed on the bowl part, it gets dirty very quick and some oils will get absorbed, but opther than that the mya bowl and tangiers bowls are really nice
Yoner
Well, I've ordered my QT from MYA. Got a sky-blue S-class qt. Only one hose because i doubt i'm going to be smoking with a ton of people that often, but i might get the converters and extra hose later. As for the bowl, I'm going to see how good the Mya is, although i've had experience. I'll probably just buy a tangiers on a whim. Another question, what do you think of Al-Fakher nargilah? i like that and havannah, but any thing else a true connisour should know/try? thanks all, peace
Sonthert
Don't tell anybody...they're the same! One is a medium, the other a small...why they charge a dollar more, I don't know!I firmly recommend Tangiers heads. You may say "his tobacco sucks". Tangiers are the best desgned, best made heads on the market...alot of manufacturers look at it from a perspective of aesthetics...I looked at it from a design perspective. I took more than thirty heads and analyzed their proportions, their venturies, their holes, their tapers, their bowl angles, and everything else that would make a difference in smoking quality...I think you'll see the results. SanguineSolitude
hey tangiers do you make smaller heads? i smoke alone as often as with friends and dont always want to put in a massive amount of shisha. a one person sized bowl would be awesome. cymptom
I really like my Tangiers head. As others have said, they're beautiful and the quality is immediately noticable. I thought it was a bit difficult to use at first, but it turned out to be a problem with my tobacco not being acclimated. Since acclimating my tobacco I haven't used any of my other bowls. I think I would like to try a shallower model though... just because I smoke with 1-2 people very often and can never make good use of all the tobacco in the bowl
Yoner
yeah, same problem here. whenever i smoked out of my friend's mya, if we ever really packed it, we would have a bit of good stuff left, but we would just throw it out and start over again.what is this about acclimating your nargilah? never heard of it. and how does doing that and the combination of tangiers' bowl work so well?my qt shipped! very happy, going to de-virginize with my dad hopefully (good lines of communication between he and i). however, i didn't get a phone call nor did it seem that i get the 15% for mentioning hookahforum got a windcover too. waiting on the next paycheck to get a tangiers head (large premium) and some nargilah (probably af cappacino or banana)well, time to drink some yummy yuengling. damn i wish i could smoke some nargilah haha!l'chaim, yoner
SanguineSolitude
yoner just so you know. a narguile, or narguilah (as far as i know) always refers to the hookah itself. the tobacco is ma'assel, moassel, shisha, or just hookah tobacco. Now i could very well be wrong, but I have never come across narguilah used as tobacco, only as the hookah itself. then agains shisha could mean either the hookah or the tobacco so who knows. acclimation is simply letting your tobacco sit out opened for several hours to allow it to reach the same humidity and temperature as the location you will smoke it. When the humidity/temp of the tobacco and surrounding air clash, the tobacco doesnt smoke right. tangiers tobacco is more finicky than most other brands and seems to be effected more by this than anything else ive tried. that said, its also one of the tastiest and most unique brands. just requires more work. tangiers has a very very odd cut. it consists of big (like 2-3 inch) pieces of tobacco. something about the design of tangiers bowls allows the tobacco to pack in better and provides the right combination of airflow and heat absorption for the tobacco. i think its mainly the amount of tobacco you can get in there that aids the burning. Tangiers works well in large quantities i guess. (tangiers can also be hard to smoke, requiring lots of heat management. but when its going well theres not much better) and yes yuengling is good. Sonthert
The relationship between depth and cross sectional area is NOT linear...making a smaller bowl than the small would create too shallow a head, making the tobacco scorch way too easy and the tobacco too ashy. Thats one of the reasons I love the large, it is almost impossible to scorch the tobacco. Tangiers Tobacco is about 25% less dense than other brands, so the extra you put into the bowl basically represents about the same amount of money whether you have a smaller bowl of Brand "X" or a larger bowl of Tangiers...these are estimates, of course. zzzzzT
I got a Tangiers bowl a while ago and I must say it is a work of art, really nice glaze and craftsmanship. The bowl really seals down well on the grommet and does not let any juices leak out.
