CamelCrazy612
I bought some natural coals the other day and I know that they require constant heat to be lit but I can't seem to get them going. My stove is touch sensitive so I can't leave them on there to light which is quite the bummer. I also made a homemade stirno by lighting hand sanitizer in a clay bowl and holding them over the flame for about five minutes. Do you guys have any other suggestions on lighting these bad boys? Thanks!
Yeah, I've been using mine for about a year now and its still going strong. The plus side to them is also if you strictly use naturals you can take it to a friends if youre gonna smoke there. Nice and portable. They get QL going in a flash too. nars2k
Yeah the mini coil burners from Walgreens or CVS are your best option and they are in my opinion the best method to light any coals.
Guest Cheng
I use a hot plate to light my coals, coil burners are no where to be found in the UK
johnp
Go with one of the burners, or at very least a torch lighter. At one point, while abroad, none were available (and the typical bic melts before being of use) and the solution we worked out (purists cover your eyes!) was to coat the coal in zippo fuel much like one would do with charcoal lighter at a barbecue...and light it. Usually when the zippo fuel had fully burned off the coals were completely lit and ready to be put on the foil.
Plex
Another option is to use a portable butane camping stove. I prefer the butane stove over the coil burner as it is lightweight, compact, doesn't require an outlet and can light coals significantly faster. The isobutane canisters are usually very cheap and last around 2 boxes of coals. I use this one: http://www.kovea.com...=1&code=&pno=14 Many choices of brands/styles are available. If you decide to get one, Just make sure it has a piezo starter and that the burner design is good for setting the coals on.
ryno
Coil burner or a propane torch will work to get naturals going. I'd suggest the coil burner.
ih303
Nothing with a flat surface seems to work. Coil burners are the best because they allow the most air flow. Gas burners work but take much longer. Definately worth the $10.
ih303
Btw, are you in South Dakota or does the SD stand for San Diego? If you're in South Dakota, you possibly bought the coals from us (Ifrits). Good to see some more fellow Dakotans on the forum.
