Question On Hoses

Recommended Posts

I'm new to hookahs and I see that most hookahs are listed as single hose hookahs, but they look like they can have two hose attached to them. Can they have two hoses attached or are they just single hose hookahs? Any help would be appreciated, thank you!

The thing that looks like it could attach a second hose that you're talking about is called the purge valve. On Mya hookahs, the purge can come off and be replaced with a hose adapter, making it a two-hose.

The purge is there to allow you to clear the vase of smoke if it becomes too harsh and you want fresh smoke, basically.

Exactly what Chris said. If you're looking for a more traditional hookah, then you'll need to get a 2 hose, etc. specifically, unlike with a Mya. Hope this clears some things up for you and good luck with your search. If you're unsure, post a link or something in here and we can give you some input.

although most hookahs do have the purge valve, it can be swapped out for another hose adapter, the downside of this being when you want to clear your hookah of smoke you're going to have to disconnect one of the hose so you can blow it out through the adapter where the purge used to be.

i have a Qt with the swappable port.your right about the purge.when i smoke alone i keep it on so i can purge. Didn't really understand why you would need to purge till i burned some tobacco and it tasted like ass. took the coals off.purged and made some minor adjustment. It saved the smoke.

Wow, thanks for the help. So, do most of the two hose models have a purge valve? I was looking at this hookah and was wondering if it would have a purge valve or not.

Also, I'm not really sure about quality or not. I don't have much to spend but I want to get something nice with two hoses.

any hookah can be made from a one hose to a multiple hose hookah.

Mya has adapters that turn the purge into a second port.

some places sell what can best be described as a y adapter that either fits into the hose port or replaces it (I cant remember who sells them but I know i seen them)

or you can make your own adapter with that clear flexible plastic tubing that most hardware stores sell by cutting 3 small pieces and gluing them together to make a y shape (you will have to angle the ends to butt up against each other so the glue makes an air tight seal) then stick the bottom of the adapter onto the end of an old hose you dont use anymore (cut the hose itself off the end that would fit to the hookah) then you can just put that on the hookah and hook the two hoses together in the other end (with this you dont need two extra grommets as the plastic hose works just fine without them you only need the one for where the adapter itself fits into the hookah)
this looks like crap but it works (use a heat safe non toxic glue)

*I myself prefer single hose hookahs.

I think Sami Romman's Egyptian hookahs have modular ports, too. You can unscrew a vent and replace it with a hose port. I would call them and ask them. Two hose hookahs don't really need a purge valve, since you can tap your friend on the shoulder and ask her to unplug her hose so you can purge the pipe by blowing, venting through the second hose. If the hookah has autoseals, then its more tricky. You know what they really need? I just had a great idea. :P Its a secret. Don't ask!
