Tangiers Question

ive only been using tangiers for about a week now and sometimes i cant get very thick clouds with it. im pretty sure im packing enough. im using a small tangiers phunnel and i put the tobacco in about 1/2 inch over the rim of the bowl before pushing it down flush. i usually use 3 whole ccn's. occasionally it gets harsh, but i just take one off and it seems to fix it. after that, the clouds seem to get pretty thin. or not as thick as i'd like them to be. suggestions?

When I smoke Tang I half four halves of coconara's. I used to use three wholes but I had the same problem as you, three was too much and 2 wasn't enough.

I have no idea, but I smoke OG. Maybe that'd be too much heat?

Tangiers wasn't always the best hitter when it came down to which brand can produce the most clouds, for obvious reasons.

haha, thanks. yea, cutting them in half is a bitch though...maybe we could convince them to make pre-cut coco's?? i'd buy em lol

Yeah they are, and if you do it wrong and miss, you make a whole lot of mess and you end up with much less coal lol.

you know, its funny, as good as tangiers smokes, i would have to agree with that statement. I get the thickest clouds from tangiers, but it almost seems like there is a limit to how big the clouds can be. I seem to actually get bigger clouds with layalina, but they usually aren't as thick.


as far as your problem, sounds like you solved it, but i might recommend putting less shisha in there. i was smashing the shit out of it too when i first started, and i would get it to smoke ok, but not great. then i packed a little less and it drastically improved my sessions. i have to pack it tighter than most, but not nearly as tight as you are describing. im not sure about the difference in heat output, but i find 2 full Ch QLs to work great. any less and it sucks, anymore and it gets harsh.

sounds like an idea, i may try less. when i read all the posts about tangiers, the gist was to pack the shit out of it...so i did. lol. tangiers is the only brand i seem to have this issue with. i smoke a lot of af using 3 whole coco's all the time. tang is alot of work haha

well, i think the "smash the shit out of it" rule more applies to OG, not lucid. i could be wrong though. im just saying what works for me. if nothing else, just experiment until you find what works right for you. the reason i started packing mine lighter is because i would smoke the bowl for like 30 min and it would start to taste a little hot/harsh, so i would rotate coals, blow the smoke out, and all the fun stuff, and then go back to town and it would still taste hot/harsh. i then took the foil off and the top layer will be burnt while the rest of still just fine and juicy. my guess the airflow couldn't make it through the shisha, so packing it lighter lets more air get to all the shisha better, not just the top layer. it solved my problem. the next thing i can suggest is the mod, i get more flavor when i use the mod. if you watch eric's vid, he does smash the stuff in there pretty tight and all, and it works great for him, but i assume he is using OG and not lucid. eric is the best person to get advice from though when it comes to tangiers, of course.

When it comes to halving the cocos I found that using a serrated knife works the best, like a steak knife. I cut up about 30 coals in a row so I wouldn't have to do it for a while and I got even halves pretty much each time.
Halves definitely make heat management a lot easier, and it's all about the heat management

How I do it. Cuts 'em perfect everytime with minimal mess, IF you hold the knife straight on the middle of the coal as you hit down with the hammer.

You also have to make sure the knifes edge is perfectly parallel to the coco, then smack it as hard as you can. If the knife is angled, it dramatically increases the chance you get only a sliver off. It also helps to score it a little first.

With og tangiers, I use a toothpick to make the holes and I poke all the way down to the bottom of the bowl. It seems to make a difference. One time I forgot to do that and the smoke was significantly less and a little harsh. I also smash the shit out of it, so I'm gonna try lessening the amount I use and see if it makes a difference.

I use two small coals. It smokes great for me. Big thick clouds and great flavor. Just my input, I am still new.

Yeah i've been having this problem aswell recently with my order of Tangiers. I got a mini phunnel and ive been smoking Og K Chery, usually put two coconaras on and the smoke is decent but not all that. Any idea how many cocos or QL to put on for this?
