Sieg
Hi! I was hoping someone could shed some light on a question I've been pondering. What is the difference between a stainless steel bowl and ones made of ceramic/ clay? Also is their a real difference between a Phunnel and a Vortex bowl? To my unedumacated mind the principles seem the same (keep the shish away from the stem so the juice doesn't go anywhere). Lastly, I seem to see Hookah John touted alot, I take it he is a highly respected purveyor of Hookah goods and is a reputable dealer? Many thanks, Tony

Where ever you did, you should not use it, it will leak massive amounts of molasses into your stem and base. Stick to UNglazed bowl, because they restrict a lot of the molasses from making it into your stem. Ceramic will allow the molasses to reach your stem too. Tuscani
steel bowl?? I would think heat managment would be a pain... like Codename said if you go for the egyptian type bowl use an unglazed, otherwise I stick to my phunnel. Never seen or used a vortex, so I have no info on that for you. Oh, and john is the shit!
ih303
They speak the truth! Stay away from stainless steel bowls. They're absolute crap. Authentic Tangiers Phunnels are superior in every way to a Vortex bowl. The pull through the vortex is significantly more restrictive and the quality seems much cheaper than the phunnel. John is the best on the web, HANDS DOWN! Edited February 18, 2010 by ih303
Stuie
Everyone's right... metal bowls have FAIL built into them because they aren't designed for modern tobacco but traditional tombek tobacco which most of us don't smoke.
