With proper care they can last years... Eric, the creator of Tangiers, I know has a KM that lasted him like 15 years. Just wash it out good after every smoke and it'll last you a long time. And KMs are not known to rust due to the materials they're made of, which is one of the many reasons why they're so popular.

Nah, that's actually pretty normal. If you want to get rid of the gap, you'll have to shave down the grommet. Or lube it up with water when you stick the stem on the vase and see if it looks any better.

Yeah, that's probably the number one problem with KMs, the damn grommet between the stem and vase... A lot of people report problems with a gap there.
