Efficient Coal Starting

Recommended Posts

perhaps i am ruining the purpose of using real coals by doing this but I light my natural coals by just striking up a quick light coal and using it to light the the natural coal. since i usually run 2 coals i usually just cycle out the quick light early on and go through the remainder of the bowl enjoying the natural coals.

I know this is a ways off of your idea and might not be the most efficient thing, but a while back Scalli made some pretty unique coal lighting setups. I could only find 2 vids and didn't look back through the forum to find the threads about it, but you can get the gist of it from these. I have built one into my current hookah table project. I used scallis before, it's pretty easy to make yourself.

Alright, so if I were to want to prototype my idea, how do you think would be the best way to go about it?

I know nothing about metal working, so would it be something I would need to weld? I figure I'd be using heavy grade aluminum.

some folks (my brother being one) have made the grill chimneys out of stove pipe and the screen from a whisper fan.
If you could find a smaller piece of stove pipe or something like it and screw a metal handle to it.
