Nakhla Heat Management

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,
So I just picked up my first batch of Nakhla DA and love it. The only problem is, I'm having trouble with heat management. So far, I've tried using two Coco Naras on a vortex, and the smoke is pretty thin. When I add a third, the smoke gets thicker but also becomes really harsh. How do you guys set it up?

I don't know if it's the same way with the vortex as it is the phunnel, but with a phunnel you should fill it up a little above the top and then smoosh it down a little. That might help a little. Also, you could try breaking up a coal so it's 2.5 coals, might work.

sounds like you need to pack it a bit tighter. I also crack my cocos in half. On my mini phunnel which I assume holds about the same amount as a vortex, I use 2 cocos cracked in half, so 4 halves. On my small phunnel which holds 40g I use 5 halves.

Try packing it tighter and using halves not wholes, and check out my tutorials for nakhla in my sig, I have one for mizo and one for og.

Goodluck!

Alright, thanks! I think the packing was my problem. I was packing it like SB haha. Will give it a go soon!

speaking of packing nak...well sorta; mizo. but anyway, i read through the tutorial for it and its kinda hard to tell how much shisha is actually in the bowl in the pics. i usually sprinkle it in till its about a half inch above the rim of the bowl then push it down flush. is this ok? too much, too little??

OG likes a tighter pack, mizo likes a SLIGHTLY lighter pack.

Honestly man, if you are getting good clouds, good flavor, and no harsh smoke, keep doing what you are doing, if you aren't getting good clouds, or are getting harsh smoke, PM me and I will work something out for you to get yourself some quality sessions.

Did you try cracking your coals also?

Yeah, but this time I was using Sinbad QL's, so I'm sure that changes things. Once I have the time to do your specific setup, I will let you know how it smokes. Thanks!

i think the type of coals does matter. although ive never smoked anything but af with ql's since i ordered cocos with my nakhla haha.

as far as cracking nats in half, it all depends on the original size. i had to crack my first box of ccn's in half but my second are smaller, about the size of CH nats...but anyway, what ever works

Ok, so I've done about four bowls now and just can't get it. Last time I was able to get good smoke but it was killing me. Didn't make me cough, just kinda hurt. My conclusion is that I'm just a Nak pansy.

I rarely use my vortex for Nak. You have to pack it tight up to the top and that's a lot of tobacco. try a shallow modern bowl. There is no juice to go down the stem. My mod bowl is about half as deep as the vortex.

yeah with Nak i usually just pack as much as possible and then i a little more :), ill then force it down with foil then 3 CH Nat Coals + wind cover to get her going. Ill then usually remove the wind cover or keep it on as needed. This is with a small tangiers of course

For Nak, Ive always used a small phunnel, 2 of the CH QLs, and a wind cover. Once everything is rolling like it supposed to - clouds and flavor - I take the wind cover off.

That is the method that works for me, just thought I would share.

With Nak, Ive never had a rough session, and is way better than SB to me.

Word of wisdom/caution - Nak loves heat to get going, which is why I use a wind cover, but once you get it going, good flavor and good clouds, I take the wind cover off or it will get harsh.
