LZ22
I use a small phunnel fyi. I've had a problem lately that whenever I smoke tangiers (only tangiers...never a problem with any other tobacco) the juices ooze out all over like a volcano. They spill over in the middle of the phunnel and ooze all over the stem, they leak out all over my grommit, and they actually drip out the sides past the foil and down the sides of the phunnel like a fountain. What do I do?? I usually pack tangiers pretty tight up till it touches the foil. Its kind of an annoying problem because clean up is an absolute mess all the time. ryno
Sounds like you might be packing too much in the bowl.
Codename067
You are without a doubt over packing. Pack less or push the tobacco down a bit.
Deutsch am Herzen
same thing happens to me. i usually lay in shisha about a half inch above the rim and push down...still does it. seems that if i use any less it doesnt taste near as good. its lucid though. need to order some og
cotsi95
your over packing it the shisha fluffs up when you smoke. Try less until it doesnt do it then thats the perfect amount.
LZ22
Hmm... perhaps I am overpacking. The problem is that I've tried less and it tasted bad...guess I have to find a happy medium. I think I am pressing too hard when doing the foil test so it seems like I have to pack an insane amount. Probably taking the phrase 'pack the shit out of it' too literal. I'm going to try less and report back.
A13lackFish
overpacking and possible burn it sounds like. Ease off on the amount so its not overflowing and double foil it
Arcane
i've asked Walt (foibled_again) about this and he says it's a common occurence in the lounge...so, i doubt it's overpacking, at least not by much. i know that with some lucid flavors, what seems like an excessive amount of juice is usually present. it doesn't usually happen with Noir. Or at least, very rarely happens. so, imo...if you're using Lucid, or the tobacco is really juicy...you're gonna get that problem. if it's Noir, it tends to be less of an issue. fillup
hmm, thats strange. like everyone said you must be overpacking it. make sure you mix the shisha up before hand and dont just take the juciest of the juciest shisha there is all the way at the bottom. Take some of the mixture that you made. And when you press down on the shisha do you see a layer of juice there?
CamelCrazy612
I use a vortex bowl that has a cone coming up from the middle with 4 holes on the side which prevents juices from flowing down into the stem and keeps the shisha moist and makes it last longer. I got it online for like 10 bucks. Definitely a good investment.

dizzbizz
I've had the same problem recently. And from my experience I can say its over packing.
phantastik
Yea this happens at the lounge, This also happens when i pack at home (although this does occur every once in awhile.) No change in flavor though, its as strong as ever (noir that is) and it never gets harsh on my end. After experiencing this at the lounge (especially when someone else packs it for me.) I just ignore the fact and brace myself for a mess to clean... Perhaps i am overpacking, but i'd rather have great flavor and overpack a little vs underpack and get that harsh bowl. antouwan
sounds like that's what she said. in all seriousness, you're just putting too much in there. just don't cram it in there so much and it should be perfect! ^ hahaha

(couldn't resist) The flavor in question is Horchata noir. The whole batch is just one big oozy goo fest...super wet. I did try packing less with my peach ice tea (batch was much less gooey however) and I still got good flavor and no goo mess. It could be the packing, because when I poked it with a toothpick, juices would ooze up through each hole. I think its probably overpacking. I always cram a lot in the phunnel because I hate having to alter the bowl after I put coals on.
