Deutsch am Herzen
ok. so, for some reason i cant get AF esk apple to smoke as well out of a phunnel as i can a mod bowl. its like with the phunnel i get too much flavor, if that makes sense. but in a mod it tastes a lot more mild. anybody else experience this?? dizzbizz
I'm not sure what youre doing, maybe packing it too tight? It smokes fine in my phunnel.
i dont know. it may be too tight. ever since i started smoking tangiers, its like i cant pack normal shisha anymore. haha. i ended up emptying my phunnel in a mod and had to add more to fill it up. so tightness is most likely the problem...(yea, i know lol)
IamWhee
Is it harsh at all?
Codename067
Well, I don't usually smoke flavors straight, I always mix, so I can't relate to your problem.
haha. i think it has something to do with the amount of juice in it...it made it tasted really really sweet, thats all. i think i figured it out though. switched back to tangiers a min ago. lol
joytron
It is just a really sweet tobacco, try adding some mint and cinnamon, i find it a little too overwhelming straight.
bigtoepfer
I could never get into the gold esk apple. It seems to always smoke fine then after awhile it would be weird. So I'd mix it with AF berry. I didn't get my phunnel until I ran out of esk tho. So I guess I'm not much help to you
ih303
I've never considered Esk. Apple to be an overly sweet flavor. What you're experiencing probably has to do with the moisture levels. Is the taste you describe super sweet but with a very bitter after taste that lingers in your mouth like a film?
boludo
I don't want to hijack your post, but I also have problems with this flavor. My problem though is weak smoke (small clouds compared to tangiers and sb) and flavor. And I know it is not lack of heat because when I add more heat it taste burned. ryno
Too much flavor seems very odd... Try mixing with af mint or using really cold water with some ice in the base

I got so used to packing Tangiers tight I packed everything tight and eventually packed Tangiers too tight. Haha. But i think thats the problem though.
yup, exactly. it was fine goin in but not so great comin back out haha. i'll just quit smoking it out of my small phunnel, no big deal. i used to smoke it out of my large all the time. but i guess since theres not a whole lot of room in the small phunnel, its easy to pack it too tight. ih303
There was a discussion about this a while back. Unfortunately, there's really nothing that can be done about it. I've notice it happen a lot with TN and AF, never NK or SB. It happens regardless of type of hookah or hose, although I seem to only notice it when smoking out of phunnels. The strange thing is, it's not consistent - sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn't. I think the stuff Eric brings up such as relative humidity and due point must have something to do with it but don't understand enough to explain. I do feel your pain, man. It's definately an irritating phenomenon, and it frustrates me that there's nothing I can do about it. ih303
By the way, here's a link to that post. And here's the bit from Eric I was talking about:
Some flavors have a tendency to turn from a gas back into a liquid...or from a gas back into a solid, depending on the component in question. Some that reform as solids will suck liquid out of the vapor stream to wet it down. The liquid in this case would tend towards being bitter or sour, depending on the flavor and the component that is refluxing. This class of phenomena would be increased if the relative humidity is high and/or the temperature is low. Adding ice to the vase would make it worse, too. Guest Cheng
I love strong flavour, I hate mildness. This is how I pack AF in a small Phunnel: I fill it to the rim or below it, then using a fork pat it down a tad bit. for Holes, 3 sets of holes. Job done. Codename067
Trust me, this issue will be barely evident when you mix other flavors with it.
