bobbo21
Hey guys I received my first order of tangiers a few weeks ago, and after much research and trial and error, I think I understand how to smoke it correctly. My only issue is that the shisha will stick to the foil forming a burnt barrier that blocks the rest of the shisha from receiving heat. I've tried the obvious solution of packing it down less, but I think the weight of the coals eventually makes the shisha touch the foil. I'm using a small tangiers phunnel bowl. Any ideas? Namenone
I have this problem too! Correct me if im wrong anyone but wont the shisha stick to the foil no matter what? you can just take the top layer off and add some fresh shisha to the top layer? DirtyQuack
lol wut? I get some stray leaves stuck to the foil, but it's usually nothing major. Only twice has the bowl caked onto the foil entirely, and even then it was black to the bottom. Maybe it could be the foil's thickness? I have trouble with thin foils. dizzbizz
I think this is common. Sometimes it happens to me and only once have I smoked a whole bowl of tang completely through. Its just how you pack it. If you search youll see a lot of threads about reusing the shisha on the bottom of the phunnel.
ryno
Most shishas, and Tangiers especially, the shisha will touch the foil. Tangiers also seems to last alot longer than most other shisha. In my small phunnel I can do about 2 sets of coals with most other tobaccos. With Tangiers it is at least 4 sets of coals. Is the smoke harsh at all? Stuie
If the coals are pushing the foil down, you need to use a bigger piece of foil. Allows you to cinch it tighter around the bowl and down the bowl. Odds are you have to much heat in one location. Try breaking your coals in half and spreading them around. And place them more to the edge of the bowl. KeepItSimple
Same thing happens to me, I think it was because I packed it too tight and too close to the foil. I wasnt using HD foil either, might be your problem too.
hookahlou
Watch Eric's video about how to pack it on Youtube. His pretty much touches the foil everywhere. But his packing method neutralizes any potential problems. You're supposed to poke so many holes (and they are decently big since they should be done with an oyster fork) that penetrate through the shisha and allow for good heat and air circulation. bobbo21
I just watched Eric's video, and it just gets harsh real fast. I thought tangiers required low heat, but Eric used 4 coals? I've also tried using 2 sheets of foil which didn't work either. It starts smoking good, but then the top layer burns, and I get thin, harsh smoke. I'm using a small tangiers phunnel with a diffuser and CH hookah instant light premium coconut coals if that makes a difference. I ordered a box of natural coals, but I don't expect it to fix my probem.

[/quote] Eric is using a large in the video....there's a HUGE difference in size between a Large and a Small....cut your heat by 3/4ths and you should be ok....cutting by half might work too...
