Blakefox
How do you pack a proper nahkla bowl in a modern bowl? I've seen posts regarding phunnels and vortexs, so should I follow the same principles? The post seem to mention something about packing tight, which Ive always packed lightly to give it more air. Also, "nakhla loves heat"? Does that mean lots of coals? I use three kings and always try to use minimal coals as possible, usually one, but 2 seems to give better smoke. But my friends were also saying it became harsh, and only seemed to las an hour, while starbuzz peach lasted a few hours with lemon naturals. I'd much rather use naturals because i take my hookah everywhere, and i don't have the means to heat naturals everywhere I go. Also, the taste wasn't as good as I expected. Nakhla seems to have a very large fanbase, so It must be good. But so far, my order has lacked in everything it seemed to be praised about, besides the smoke. Sometimes thick, sometimes thin. And the buzz only hit me in the beginning, then faded. Would acclimation help? I've never did this, and I've read good things, It's just mine seemed so dry already...Help please? Thanks,. Blakefox
Also, mixing in glycerin? Good Idea to fix the dryness?
PSU Smoker
I personally havent smoked Nak but im pretty sure u need to acclimate it. And i would def go 2 coals over 1. On a Egyptian bowl i generally use 1.5 coals for tangiers and fusion and 2 for AF and AW. I'd imagine Nak would be the same
mushrat
pack it loose like any other shisha. It does like a bit more heat than most. No need to add glycerin, it smokes fine the way it is.

With a mod bowl just sprinkle the shisha in the bowl in pack it down a little with your fingers. 2 to 3 coals is good to use when smoking nak depending on bowl size. Nak is an awesome brand of tobacco n you will enjoy it a lot. Edited March 13, 2010 by jeremyk
Codename067
I once found a super old Nakhla box sitting around, must've been at least 2 years old. I was hesitant because of how dry it was, I thought that it would burn too quickly, so I added a bit of glycerin to it. Other than that, no need! Pack and smoke! Joel
I have yet to master Nak as well.
fineout
you're putting the pussy on a pedestal, just smoke it, watch your heat and tend to it and its fine...nakhla is the easiest shisha there is
Bulldog_916
Nakhla can be a heat hog. Just pack it in a shallower Egyptian bowl, reconstitute if you need to, and smoke. No real science to it.
Blakefox
Well I was also wondering about coals. I tried three kings, and found the taste of my shisha to be mediocre at best, only able to taste mint and no fruit. On two different shishas, starbuzz and al fahker , i tried a lemonwood nat and some weird expensive black boxed coal. The lemonwood left the peach starbuzz slightly tastey with alright smoke, but this weird, possible quicklight, expensive brand coal left the al fahkar tasting amazing, but the smoke dying after only 20 mins passed around between 4 people. Do Charcoals really make that much of a difference? I had no clue, I heard so much great thinks about 3k and nakhla, but are dissatisfied with both. My nahkla doesnt smell old or look old, plus removed stems, but i'm getting no fruit flavors and it really isnt lasting at all, whats wrong? PSU Smoker
coals make a big difference, QLs generally will leave some tast in ur shisha so nats would be preferred. Also after time passes your coals get smaller and smaller so you will need to add additional coals to the top of your bowl. I have found using halves works best for heat management

Cocos are the one of only thing I can use. 3 Kings will do it for me... sometimes... to a point.
Blakefox
well my latest was a mix a double apple and mint mix. I added the mint after tasting, not a burnt taste, but really not much to see what was up. Mint came out alright. Smoke wasnt so good until I made it two 3ks which helped the smoke, but became too harsh so i went back to 1, and then to 1 1/2. smoke was alright, it was outside so probably lessened it a bit. As for flavor, never tasted any double apple at all. Was almost a bad taste. So i'm going to try some nats then. Co-co naras i heard were good, but arent those becoming rare or somthin? And are they cheap like quicklights?
Blakefox
well actually, what about ch quicklights? Arent those coconut quicklights? Would that help. I dont own a portable coal cooker and Ive only seen'em for like30 bucks.
fineout
break the 3k into halves and start off with 2 halves seperated from each other on opposite edges of the bowl, rotate them around a few times about pi/2 radians every 5-10 minutes, when the smoke starts to lessen, then add another half and keep the rotation going but change it to about pi/6 radians every 5-10 minutes and so on and so fourth, double apple wont taste like apple by the way its an apple with a locorice taste to it so if youre tasting that and expecting a candy apple taste then youre going to be bound to be disappointed Edited March 14, 2010 by fineout
ukhookah
personally, i would say pack it like how hookahjohn shows on his videos. use a phunnel. personally ive smoked it in an egyption compared to phunnel. phunnel is way better. when u pack it out you get tons of smoke and flavour. even better get the mizo range. you wont be dissapointed
Venger
I am smoking Nakhla cola right now in my vortex. I rolled a tube of foil for the bottom (my version of the tealight mod) packed the tabacco tight on top of the foil right to the top. three 3 kings ql broken in half three pieces in a triangle shape. good clouds, great flavor been smoking for an hour. good luck Ray
HsK BATES
I just bought my side coil burner from wal-greens the other day for 7.99$ on sale from 10.99, works awsome and lights coco's fast
twoapplesplease
the mod bowl is a good bowl for nakhla,,,but you will need to overpack it a bit somewhere round +30g's worth of tobacco...If your using the 3 kings large coals lite 2 of them and place them dead center of the bowl one on top the other and use a windcover...as they die down place both coals on top the bowl directly and rotate....You may need to use a long poker to poke up threw the bottom of the mod bowl to ensure good air flow....
