ZAGO
so after multiple sessions one problem keeps arising. about half way into smoking the bottom of my cocos cool down ( turns black and not 'glowing' red) this makes the smoke "taste" funny like a hint of charred, which make the smoke unpleasant. i use the wind screen as well. has anyone had this problem or could anyone give suggestions. thanks

Stuie
I flip them about every10-15 minutes. Or I just leave them and add a windcover.
Arcane
i doubt it's the coals turning black that's causing the "charred" flavor... a "burnt" taste is usually attributed to "burning" the tobacco...the coals PLUS the windcover is probably overkill....try it without the windcover and see what happens... inino
Mine go black underneath but it never has added a bad flavor. Could be an underpacked bowl.
dizzbizz
I get this problem a lot and sometimes after I flip it both side end up being black and not as hot as they should be, so I put it on its side to expose the flat sides. After a few minutes they're a nice grey.
