Joel
Ok, so as we all know, there is much praise about the small and mini tangiers phunnel. Also, there are many who swear that the tangiers brand is better than any other, but have no reasoning behind it. Aside from size, why would a tangiers phunnel be better than a chinese or havana phunnel? Wouldn't the physics behind it be exactly the same? ryno
I like them because the retain heat better and seem alot more solid than the knockoffs
cotsi95
The knock off phunnels use a less dense clay that doesnt retain heat as well. There for you use more coals while smoking.
Travis
A tangiers phunnel is completely different than the knock offs. The most important part (to me) is the material its made out of. The tang phunnels are made out of a material that is strong, and holds heat very well. A chinese phunnel has thin walls and doesnt hold heat nearly as well. Second is shape, a tang has a perfect shape, the phunnel is the perfect height. In the chinese phunnels the phunnel isnt quite right. The foil wants to cover the hole quite often, which isnt a good thing. Overall if i were to give you one of each and not tell you which ones which, and told you to smoke them both and then tell me which one you like better.....chances are your going to pick the tang. antouwan
the physics would be the same, but the construction materials are far from close. the original tang phunnels are made of a material that better insulates, thus meaning less coal goes further. also, eric was the one who invented the phunnel. the concept in itself is his property, imo. and because of that he should be the beneficiary by either getting all or some of the proceeds or royalties. just my not-so-modest 2 cents

Joel
Thanks, guys! I will be ordering the white/green one soon then. It's just a matter of finding it for a half-decent price.
Codename067
Looks like you guys handled this one. I have to say though, the Chinese knock off that my friend keeps in my garage is up to par with the Tangiers Phunnel. Never do I have to put more coals on it when compared to the Tangiers Phunnel. Capt. Morgan
Everything that was mentioned above, and Eric makes an excellent product, I would rather support him than buy a knock off.

jelatin
I agree that I would rather support Eric than some random Chinese company, but I sincerely doubt there is a significant difference. Bottom line (imo) is people like brand names.
thatonethere
The Tangiers phunnel bowls are made on a potter's wheel. This insures an even thickness of the walls and uniformity of the bowl. Plus the ridge in the middle is higher than the chinese phunnels, making it easier to keep the shisha juice from going down the stem. The chinese phunnels don't have that option, which kind of defeats the purpose of the phunnel bowl (imo). Stuie
Chinese and Havana Knockoffs are the same size as a Medium Phunnel. I wouldn't grab a Chinese again, but the Havana isn't too bad actually.
ih303
I've never used a Havana, but I have used both chinese and glass phunnels. Neither touch the quality of Tangiers. Like everyone said, it's all in the materials. Chinese phunnels are more of a shell - all hollow. And I just don't think glass retains heat as well as clay.
