I am new to hookah. Like, so new that I literally have only smoked once. I really enjoyed it though, and I would like to know everyone's opinion on how hookahs affect people individually. Any of your own personal experiences would help greatly. I want to know what benefits there may be and what problems may come along with smoking the hookah occasionally. How addictive is the nicotine in shisha to you guys. Is there a possibility of becoming easily dependent on shisha tobacco?

Additionally, I have questions/concerns about the general health risks of smoking the hookah. What are the risks of smoking the tobacco shisha? Has it had any significant effects on anyone's lifestyles negatively?

I am aware that there is herbal shisha, but I don't know much else about it, other than it has no tobacco. But is it any better to smoke that than to smoke regular shisha with tobacco.

I am just doing simple and basic research before deciding on whether or not I should and/or could make hookah smoking a simple, fun, and relaxing hobby for my life that will not necessarily HAVE to be something I do for all of my life. (I don't want to become addicted to the nicotine.)

Well I guess I'm the onyl one that enjoys the third testicle they grew... oh well.

I always compare it to alcohol. Mainly wine coolers. Are wine coolers good for you? Of course not. Is the alcohol in them addictive? Of course. But they are a hell of alot less potent and prolematic than say, everclear. Or rum. Or any other hard liquor. They're made to be drunk when you plan on having a good time. If you find yourself looking for excuses to drink them, there's your problem.

It's a social activity, and a activity used to give the feeling to relief, and soothing. I constantly say this, but the addiction is in the lifestyle, not the shisha.

Everyone on this forum knows that smoking anything is in no way benificial. But I'll be honest and say I haven't had ANY complications as far as my health goes with the stuff. The worst, are the headaches in my opinion. Smoke enough bowls, and the headaches rage on.

Other than that, not much to it. It's bad for you, but not as bad as many other things are. Enjoy it, or pass. I can personally say i have no regrets taking up a hobby like this.

I love the chase of the "perfect session". Once you take up hookah and realise it isn't that easy, you learn what can be tweaked and how you can improve the smoke, and from then on out you're hooked at trying to making it the best. I love hookah and have no regrets taking it up as a hobby, I don't see myself quitting anytime soon. Only getting more hookahs!

Wow, that sounds like a load of fun
I'm going to try experimenting a little more with hookah for a while before deciding whether or not to buy my own hookah kit

The kind in shisha is a vegetable preservative. Its used in there as a preservative and it keeps it all juicy, which aids in creating the clouds you get from smoking. As far as I know, there hasn't been a real study saying if its harmful or not.

I know some people that smoke only hookah on here have been to the doctor and said they had no signs of smoking and a slight increase in lung capacity. To date, I havent read one study on hookah that wasnt biased to one side, so I dont think there is any good research out there. My favorite part of hookah, you're not actually burning the tobacco and theres not all those chemicals that cigs have in them

Well the same can be said about the amounts of tar in hookah smoke... I don't think cigarettes are relevant when it comes to smoking hookah, but I have read both extremes:
1. that hookah smoke contains up to about 36 times the tar as in a cigarette; and
2. that hookah smoke does NOT contain any tar, due to the water filtering it out. Here is the exact quote "Tar includes all of the mutagenic and carcinogenic agents in tobacco smoke. hookah doesnt contain tar only because you arent physically burning the tobacco. Tar is produced at a temperature at or above 800F. Yes the water will filter out some tar if you get your tobacco hot enough but not all of it. Chances are if I fill my lungs with tar I'll die a happy man =P

haha thx...I also look at it from the veiwpoint that most shit today is bad for you and causes cancer, so if it not hookah then I guess it will be from artificial sweetener....life is too short to give up the things you enjoy
