rhineholt
I found my Ipod nano in a sweater.... that I just washed. Oh, it was also put in the dryer for about 10 minutes. hahah Now, it still turns on. There's no backlight though. And the scroll wheel doesn't work. Do you guys think there is anything i could do? Rani
Actually there are probably a lot of people who'd buy it for the music in it if you have it cataloged. Out here in Orange County there's this whole "almost underground" thing to see who can collect the most music. I dated someone for a while that has a friend over the 3,000 gig range (across multiple external drives) whose part of it. Seems unmanageably huge and a waste of time to me, but whatever. But that's how I know people will do a lot to try and get the music even if the device is trashed. 'Rani
liquidglass
You can try putting it in a bowl full of uncooked rice. It will generally draw moisture out of things and is a recommended way to dry stuff out. Honestly though you might be screwed if the back light is just dead. dont' turn it on again till you give it a chance to dry.
Jeff_T
Sorry to hear that man. It's probably not worth it, but with most iPods you can get replacement parts for them. Sounds like it needs a new screen and clickwheel. It may also need a new logic board too. I recently got an iPod classic for pretty cheap that worked fine for a few weeks then the HD went bad, got a replacement on eBay (which didn't work, so they're exchanging it). It was a huge PITA to take it apart and the house is kinda bent/banged up now. All in all, I would have been much better off just buying a new one... It wouldn't be a bad idea to throw it on eBay and state it was water damaged. There are a ton of damaged ones always selling on there, so there is a market for them.
i know that there is a way and it depends on the type of ipod you have... seeing as how you said the scroll wheel isnt working i know that it isnt a touch lol. about 2 years ago there was a computer program i picked up from best buy that allowed you to rip music of the ipod. what you had to do was use itunes to enable the device as a mass storage device then once that was done ethe program i had could pull music off of the ipod. not to sure if that would work on some of the newer ipods or what the name of the program is but im pretty sure there is something out ther probably available at best buy or circuit city. im sure there is some kind of program floating around that would work
wpw36
there are a bunch of free programs on the net u can download i did that when my fiancee got a new comp instead of waiting to get the external hd from home i downloaded one ripped music to hd on her mac and then deleted program
Jeff_T
I know one program i've used for mac is Snuti. When I used it, it was free, but it seems now you can "rip" 1000 songs for free then have to pay for further use. I'd say do a google search, because I'm sure there is a ton of info out there. rhineholt
Do you guys think Apple would do this? Like, I get a new ipod and they just switch it all over?
fineout
you dont even need to download a program

set your ipod as enabled for disc use, dont remember how to do that but i think you can do that with itunes
plug your ipod in and go to 'my computer' and open your ipod
left click the 'tools' tab in the window that opens
then go to folder options and then click 'view'
under that there's an option for 'show hidden folders' click that
now there should be a folder called ipodcontrol click that
your music should be under a folder labeled..music
copy everything from there into a folder on your computer ***DO NOT COPY STRAIGHT TO ITUNES YOU WILL LOSE EVERYTHING***
...?
Profit

All the music you've purchased is actually on your account. So you can own more than one device and load various things onto the different devices. A couple people I know have the 120G version and also a nano for working out, etc. So they move things back and forth from device to device all the time.
