So you're argument to the families of people who have died from smoking related illnesses is "sorry skippy he had it coming? I'm glad he's dead, now I'm making more money?" Really? It may be easy to say that over a forum, but if you had to look someone in the face, I guarantee you it wouldnt come out like that. I think you're love of hookah is too strong. I agree that we shouldnt overly support people who abuse themselves. But people make mistakes and some reverse them. My grandmother stopped smoking 6 or 7 years ago after smoking since she was 13. If she all of a sudden got upper respiratory disease or pneumonia or something like that you would tell her "Hey, you did it to yourself smoking for 50 years. Have fun in the grave."? Or would you say "Yea I guess you learned your lesson so you're allowed to seek some assistance from medicare or medi-cal?" I think the lines are blurred quite a bit here. You only think that way because you're healthy and because smoking hasnt claimed a part of your body yet. If you all of a sudden developed smoking related illnesses you'd be much more likely in the "I wish I didnt pick this smoking shit up" group. I may love hookah, but I'm not fanatical or hypocritical about it. I understand both sides here.

Same argument can be made for trans fat, genetically modified foods, HFCS, alcohol, and a myriad of other things directly related to obesity & heart disease (The number one causes of death in America) but where's the governement on this.

I have seen more McDonalds pop up in this recession than ever and the liquor stores in my area have all expanded. Especially with all this bad food right in front of us, that is as good as poison, harming us all day every day, yet why don't they do anything about, Corn Lobby, Montesero (sp?), Drug Company's and other firms won't let it happen. If we eat and drink porely we have to seek medical attention and get on medication. Making it a win for all involved

They are focused on the wrong thing if they are concerned about Americas health. What they are doing is like this "The ship is sinking! But let's finish sanding the deck."

Realistically... does dianne frankenstein actually expect us to believe, even for a moment, that increasing the tax is going to stop use by minors? Since that seems to be the logic she is using in the response, one has to come to the conclusion she has no touch with reality.

Hmmmm why do most of the ones trying to control our behaviour all have "D"'s behind their names? Must be a pattern.

Interesting and very valid point Scotsman. Everyday we seen teenagers running around with expensive gear so price is no object. In fact the more expensive something is the more they seem to want it. Part of that is because even those who work do so for fun money. They aren't paying rent, insurance, utilities, clothing, or anything else. So they have money to blow. This bill does nothing but hurt small business. Which I'm sure "big tobacco" is happy about. They probably have a hand in this one too if we look deep enough.
