Hookah Lounge

Recommended Posts

Something that looks and makes me feel like I am at home and not 3000 miles away or 300 years in the future.

i prefer more of a laidback atmosphere...neither middle eastern nor futuristic.

i'd rather be surrounded be in an environment i'm used to....if it were in San Diego, i'd like something like Oddessey. nothing fancy shmancy. a few comfortable chairs, a tv to watch or some chill music. on the other hand, there are times when Fumari's lounge (at least, when i used to go back in the day) or there's a lounge/bar in San Marcos (i forget the name) is more appealing. it just depends on what i'm in the mood for.

also, i've not come across this yet....but, i'd like a lounge where it feels like i'm in a corona commercial...

whats better as an atmosphere. the middle eastern feel. or modern. aka some blacklights. spray paint art, diamond plate. that whole scene

[/quote]

depends on who you're trying to attract. As a 20 year old college student... I'd prefer neither but probably the blacklight one. Both of them are bad scenes though. Just go with a modern chill scene. It's not a club. You don't need blacklights to smoke hookah

This is just an idea for a business class ( have to make a business class ) but its a perfect reason to start something ive wanted to start. I live in virginia but west virginias college teams are right now, doing better. plus they have a larger following. i have spent a lot time thinking about a usable name. It seems to me that a name makes a world of difference in this business. i might take a rival team, and put it in the name. my on campus advertising will strir up hype for my business. but ill decorate the inside ( blue and yellow walls) with a WV feel. keep it chill by not serving beer. and atract a bigger sporting crowd.

hmm interesting idea but im not sure if a rival team name will help you regardless of the inside decor...I know when I went to PSU if somewhere was named after OSU (maybe like the buckeye lounge or something) i prob wouldnt go there

If the Middle Eastern theme is done well, then I like that. Very often it's done in a rather half-assed fashion and then it just looks bad. As I'm sure you can imagine, most of the more homey nargile spots in the Middle East are very bare. Plain chairs, some random tables, crappy lighting, and TVs playing sports or music stations. Usually these places have great hitting pipes.

That sounds like an awesome place, Ray. I need to go next time I'm up that way (a 3 hour drive). All the hookah lounges here suck pretty much... I think we already talked about that...

Agreed, that place sounds awesome. Next time my friend and are in TN I might have to drag her to Knoxville! For some reason I feel like I read you need to be 21 to smoke at places like that in Tennessee... am I wrong? I would love it if I were wrong there.

It is all about what you are trying to recreate. I have had authentic lounges that were amazing, but I have had modern lounges that had a DJ and beer be just as great. For me it is all about the vibe I am picking up off of the workers and other people smoking. Just figure out which you enjoy. Nothing will ever be the same as smoking my first time. It was with a bunch of locals working on base in Afghanistan. I will never recreate smoking with them and holding conversations in Pashto. So for me it is the vibe like I said before. Good luck and enjoy.

Back when I didn't have the setup I have now, it was all about the living room feel, like how mush said his place was like. I love the big comfy couches and t.v.'s and the laid back atmosphere. But now that I have my KM and phunnels and the shisha that I like, I can have that living room feel in well...my living room haha. If I'm gonna go to a place now I want it to have something different. Idk about blacklights and shit, but going to a place with a DJ or a middle eastern feel would be cool. If the price was right you know.

But for anyone who isn't totally into hookah and has the type of setups that we have, and just wants to go and smoke out of the blue, then I always recommend the comfy places that have that living room ambiance to it. Edited by KeepItSimple

Hi everyone I'm Caila new to the forum,
I loved the hookah bar i used to go to in Atlanta it had a little bit of both. On the weekdays it was a traditional Middle Eastern feel with belly dancers, traditional music, they had booths and the cushions to sit on the floor. On the weekends they had a DJ and had the black lights. There was a cover charge and it was all you can smoke all night. Sadly they were shut down because they weren't smart and sold to minors.
