Lebanese Food

Recommended Posts

Okay so in a couple months, I am heading down to Fort Worth for a couple nights to celebrate my 5th wedding anniversary with my wonderful wife.

Now we have talked about going to this place for a while but now we are. It's a Lebanese Restaurant and Hookah Lounge... awesome I know.

Any out there have any suggestions on what to try? I have never had Lebanese food in my life and I am super excited to try it, plus HOOKAH LOUNGE!

Any Suggestions you guys would have would be great!

Here's what to get, based on their menu. Personally I say don't get shawarma except as a sandwich

BATINJAN MTABBLE
FATTOOSH SALAD
TABBULLI SALAD
MANAQUISHE (their transliteration sucks, this is pronounced: mana-eesh)
KAFTA BIL SANIA
SHAIK AL MAHSHE

KANAFI BIL-JEBIN
FARUJE MAHSHE
KANAFI BIL-JEBIN

If they have a bar, try a glass of Arak...anise all the way home, and probably why anise flavoring is so prevalent in tobacco

well...i was going to copy and paste the entire menu in my reply...

but, to err on the side of caution....i'd order everything not in the salad section of the menu.

Apps

Jebne -- not filling yet satisfying and delish, ask for some tahini to put on it (might also be known as taziki there)

Entre

SHAWARMA PLATTER -- By far my favorite Med. food ever. The only thing that comes close to it is kufta. Again, tahini and/or taziki is sex.

Dessert

AISH AL-SARIA -- I never had this EXACT way before but what I had was very similar, it's unique and AMAZING

make sure to get a bottle of arak on your table, if it's just you and the wife then ask for a half bottle or even quarter if they have them. let them prepare the mixes for you and pay attention because you will be buying more later for your personal stash if you can find it.

Want!

Appetizer: I'd say just start with mazza, little bit of everything in there. I personally love baba ganoush but we make it a little differently, base is the same but topped with lots of parsely or some roasted garlic.

Main: I'd go with the lamb or the kafta. Shawarma is nice but if you're going to a lebanese restaurant i'd say it's too safe a choice unless you go often and it's not an occasion to you.

Desert: Kataifi is good but not everybody can make it well imo. They say it's made on the premises on the menu, that means it should be fresh. Kanafi is a similair but richer desert because of the sweet cheese, too much for after dinner in my opinion but if you don't mind that it's very good.
