Bondal929
Last night a friend and I smoked nahkla mixed fruit. Ive always enjoyed mixed fruit in the past but last night we tried putting orange juice in the base. We both got very sick, and i think she threw up. The smoke tasted absolutely horrible. I was wondering if the orange juice doesnt filter as well as the water, or if it is responsible for this horrible taste. Maybe its just that the tobacco got old (Ive had it for a month and a half). NEO_WRX
has your friend ever smoked hookah before? thats a very strange reaction. Do you think the illness was caused by the actual flavor of the smoke or the nicotine buzz.(it can definately give people headaches, especially if they are first-timers). How did you store the Shisha? i'm sure the Shisha can keep for more than a month as long as it was in an air-tight container. Sorry to hear about your bad experience. Bondal929
nonono, she and I both smoke a lot. Neither of us has ever gotten sick like this ever before. As for the sickness, it felt a little like nicotine sickness, but also the horrible taste didnt help with the sickness too much.
NEO_WRX
As for the sickness, it felt a little like nicotine sickness, but also the horrible taste didnt help with the sickness too much.
I can't imagine it would. I almost became sick myself last night. I went to a local lounge last night and had just sat down on an "L" couch with a few people who were getting up to leave. I know the manager, so he told me that the girls who just got up were smoking a Tangiers Passion Fruit and had only pulled on it ONCE. So he set me up with a new tip and i slowly started to inhale and after a very pleasant flavor it began to burn like nothing else i had ever felt. While i'm coughing up a lung, my friend pulls the coal and checks the foil. I'd say about half teh shisha is stuck to it and burning like crazy. Talk about a waste...but thats what happens when you pack a lazy bowl. anyway, to get back on topic. Do you think you might have burned the Shisha or was it purely the OJ that was the culprit. icra
What kind of coals are you using?. Why dont you put water on the base and in the water you can add a little juice. You had mixed up the taste. The juice with the mixed tobacco flavor and the smoke created a horrible taste.
steve07
I think it was a mixture of nicotene and orange juice. next time just use a little juice and water.

web250
Probably partyl the OJ's fault, partyl the fault of Nakhla, which I've gotten headaches from before. And nauseua
aronparsons
Did you put all OJ or OJ and water? You should just put a touch of another liquid in the base versus filling the whole thing. Hope your future experiments with the hookah turn out better ;-)
Sonthert
Orange juice will not filter anywhere near as well as water. When you first start smoking a hookah, the nicotine is at its peak. Coincedently, the water is at its peak of solvent characteristics. If you start with a more saturated solution (like OJ), I should think it will screw things up. More nicotine coming through. People who (Ack! ) reuse the same nasty water often get poor results.
Lord Dorian
Tangiers is totally correct, this is why you should start with new water each time. As more nicotine and combustion byproducts get dissolved in the water, it becomes less effecient as a filter. Further more, adding ice actually decreases the effectivness of water as a filter, since it will become a saturated solution more easily, hot water is a more energetic solvent, and filters better. Thats not to say you sould not use other juices, as the taste thier vapor imparts could counteract the lower levels of filtration.
Lukasa
Orange juice in the base has never yielded a good smoke for me. I don't know why.
Sonthert
Yes, but nicotine has an inverted solubility curve so that really hot water actually dissolves less nicotine.
