How/Why Did You Start Smoking Hookah?

haha yea i was lucky enough not to have that effect or else i probably wouldnt have tried it again. After that one party it has become a tradition at our partys now.

fun social thing to do in high school, then as it progressed i enjoyed learning to tricks and the relaxing feel to it.

first learned about it when i went on a day trip to morocco while i was in spain for a vacation.
when i went to college i was in an honors dorm my freshman year and about 90% of the form was middle eastern kids. most of them had hookahs and would smoke them outside of the dorms so i just fell into it from hanging out with them.

Twas about 6 year ago, even though hookah was invented here, there weren't many places, bars serving it. This cafe named mocha was where i had my first hookah, pure mint. I don't know the reason why i started it, but that cloud of smoke made me want to taste it.

The First time I tried argeleh was when I was about 13, I took a quick puff from my Grandpa's argeleh and he was smoking straight Tombak...It was good lol.

Anyway I never really started smoking until I was about 16-17 years old, I got my first hookah when i was 17 and have been smoking since.

I was actually in Thailand the first time I'd ever tried hookah. We got to Bangkok during the day and spent the ENTIRE day traveling to get to this island off the south / eastern coast. It was night by the time we made it to the island, and we ended up taking a tuk-tuk to the other end of the island, and then wandering through a palm tree forest for about an hour in the pitch black trying to find a place to stay. We ran into some -awesome- Aussies who told us that we were about 100 yards from the beach and a whole lot of hotels (which were really just rent-able thatch huts).

We went over to the hotel and secured 2 thatch huts, then made our way to the restaurant. None of us had eaten anything but trail mix and beef jerky all day. We got giant piles of seafood for next to no money and ate until we couldn't feel our legs. Afterward, my friend asked if the guys there had hookahs, which they did. I had never seen or heard of a hookah before, and when they set it down on the table I thought it was a (NHT device) and I wasn't going to smoke it, but my friend explained that it was a type of flavored tobacco and a little about its history. It was definitely the perfect end to our day, and somehow bringing that tradition of smoking hookah with my friends back home with me was important.

I smoked once with my uncle when I was 13. Then, when I was 14, he was in rehab and I got suspended. I "borrowed" his hookah for the ten days I was out. Burnt holes in my grandma's carpet.

I was very intoxicated one night at a party and a friend of a friend who my other friend and i had just started talking to asked us if we smoked shisha, and then proceeded to talk about it for about 10 minutes. Being beyond hammered i had no idea what he was talking about but when i awoke the next day (somehow without a hangover) i noticed i had a message from this guy to call him (i must have swapped numbers somewhere through the night). Within an hour me and the same mate from the night before were at this guys house sitting in deep armchairs smoking choc mint shisha.

About 12 months later (when i became of legal age, 18) i started to visit the local Egyptian cafe each weekend whilst walking between nightclubs (Adelaide nightclubs are all within a 5km radius of each other). This continued for about 18 months and now i'm here, smoking my hookah at home each night before going out or going to bed whilst studying, and reading HF for some brilliant tips and information.

I was really young when I tried my first puffs. I was I think 8 or 9 I do not remember. I started smoking shisha on a weekly basis in Grade 11 with some of my buddies in Jeddah, Saudi. Now I have been a daily smoker since 2002.

My first few years I smoked Nakhla Double Apple. Now I smoke mostly AF double Apple. I am thinking about reducing the number of times I smoke to 2-3 times a week instead of 1-2 times a day, but I have not been successful yet.
