I have been using Nour for awhile now and I got to say I like 3 kings more, but Nour natural is still a great coal. So while I wish I could smoke 3 kings all the time, I am pretty much stuck with Nour so I can buy more tobacco.
If you like 3 kings, go to your local church supply store.  That's where I get mine.
/voted light coals...assuming it means quick light.

I've started to use Nours as of recently, and I like them.  I'll try Abu Haitham whenever HC gets them on the website since Tangiers rated them highly.  I used to use 3 Kings and still have some in case I run out of Nours before I can get another bag, but I like the Nours a lot better.  Instead of having an offputting metallic smell on lighting like the 3 Kings they instead remind me of BBQ.I have also noticed that I get more flavor out of some tobaccos (Nahkla orange comes to mind) with the Nours as opposed to the 3 Kings.Yeah, you have to cut them to size as they come in long sticks and heat them in some way (I use an electric stove), but overall the experience is much better.

I've been using Nours, and while I've gotten some really great smoke using them, it always seems like I have to use soo much coal to get the bowl going. Using a Tangiers bowl, I usually have to use 6-7 inches of a finger broken up into 3 pieces. Using Three Kings, I've never had to use more than 2 discs on a bowl at once, and usually use about 3 halves. So much less charcoal, yet more heat. I'm not quite sure I understand it, but I think it has a lot to do with the shape of the charcoal. The fact that Three Kings have that indentation underneath and lie flatter and closer to the bowl makes me think that the heat created by the coal is being put to better use. Much of the heat coming off of nours seems to be lost in the air -- if I put my hand above the bowl, there's much more heat than there would be with Three Kings. Either way the smoke is still good, probably better with the Nours, but having to use so much charcoal seems like a waste. How do you guys lay the Nour fingers on the bowl? I've tried cutting small discs and laying them flat side down, but I can't seem to get much heat this way so I usually light 3 long pieces and rest them on their side around the edges of the bowl, slightly touching each other so that they don't roll into the center. Yesterday I received my Japanese Golden Charcoals from hookahcompany.com and so far prefer them. Compared to the Nours, they are much easier to light and don't stink up my kitchen. 3 pieces on a bowl of Tangiers raspberry worked out pretty well.... I don't think they last as long as the Nours, though. Nours are much cheaper, so that's a plus for them...As for the poll, I didn't vote because I use both quick lights and natural coals depending on the situation. If I had an easier way of lighting naturals I might use them all the time, but I don't always feel like venturing down to the kitchen, standing in front of the gas stove struggling to arrange the coals above the burner while tiny embers pop off and land on my bare feet without me noticing until it hurts enough to leave a mark I believe you can get single burner electric stoves that just plug into the wall... anyone know where to get these and how much they cost?

I've tried several coal types, threekings, nour, bulk natural, japs, and now coconut. I have to say for convience you cant beat the quicklites, and at least for me there isnt a noticable difference in flavor, that said I like these coconut coals the best, the burn nice and hot which means i can use less coal, they light quicker than nour or japs, and they have a nice long burn too. 10 bucks for 160 pieces which is about 80-100 bowls worht aint bad either.

The japanese ones i tried were the easy lites from social smoke, which were very nice, but you had to be careful to get all the silver off otherwise it tasted like latex paint. The coconut coals are pretty much like the jap coals in that they burn long and even, but a little hotter and no added flavor. They're also a tablet style like the japs. hookahcompany is the place I got them from, but i believe fumari also carries them.

I use 3 kings for convenience sake, especially since I'm living w/ my parents for the summer.. Don't want to have to be walking in & out of my room to light coals. heh. But can't go wrong w/ quick lights.. easy lighting & good heat. Maybe when I move back out, I'll start using natural or whatever I can find locally.
