Beware Of The Tangiers Buzz

Recommended Posts

So tonight I was outside of my apt, smoking with some friends and my friend Angela was starting to say the usual things about the Tangiers buzz. You know, "I'm so lightheaded, wow this is strong" stuff like that. But she smokes cigs so she is used to nicotine and she wasn't saying anything unusual about it, everyone says that stuff when they try tangiers for the first time. So we all laugh at her a little and continue. She gets up and says her legs feel wobly and I just told her that she is probably light headed and to drink some water and take it easy and don't smoke for a bit. She does this and pretty soon it's time for everyone to leave so everyone gets up and starts getting their stuff and what not. She is the last to get up and she says that her legs are wobbly and i ask if she needs help. She says she is fine so im like ok, no big deal right, shes just buzzed.

So she stutter steps three feet and fuckin falls flat on her face and bangs her head against concrete steps I have on the side of my apt. Knocked out cold, twitching and everything. I'm like in shock so I kinda just starred at her for half a second, I couldn't believe that just happened. I pick her up and blood is everywhere and she has a huge gash over where her eyebrow should be, about three inches long, cut all the way to the bone. So she wakes up pretty quick and we cleaned her up and took her to the ER, and I just got home. She had a full blown concussion and needs a ton of stitches.

Now mind you that we weren't drinking and don't use any other substances. She was sober and well fed when this happened, and had been drinking water. So it kind of baffles me that this could happen. I definitely don't blame the Tangiers. My conclusion is that she obviously wasn't getting enough oxygen to her brain, and it must be a heart condition or something like that. I felt really bad, after all she was at my house and using my setup.

At least when I look on the bright side of the situation, now I can say (with proof) that Tangiers packs a punch that will knock you flat on your face!

Yeah, I definitely do not think you should blame the substance that she was smoking which caused her to get nicotine poisoning and fall flat on her face and concuss herself.

This is the epitome of closed mindedness when you have an arena where people cannot state the obvious for fear of a huge backlash...

First off no I don't blame it because she smoked half a session of one bowl. Yes Tangiers does give you a gnarly buzz, but it's not like that. The headline of the thread was more of a way to make light of the situation. They ran an EKG on her and several other tests, because they knew that it most likely had to do with poor circulation of oxygen. You can't get nicotine poisoning from around 20 pulls, no matter how big of a rip your taking.

And what backlash would I fear? We are all in our twenties, nobody's mom is going to call me and bitch me out.

wow, thats incredible.
no one else felt odd that night smoking?

Nope. And of course the coals were fully lit. Like I said in my post above. They were pretty sure that it might be a heart condition where she doesn't get a lot of blood pumped to her brain. Combined with lack of oxygen, she fainted. She just happened to faint in a really bad spot and cracked her head open. Had she fallen on grass it would of been no big deal.

I'm calling her in a minute so I'll keep everyone posted. Edited by KeepItSimple

Lol....I'm not talking about backlash from someone's mom...I'm talking about the backlash from you daring to make the very valid point that the shisha she was smoking before she got dizzy and cracked her head open was PROBABLY the cause...

Either way, I knew you would think I was attacking you, and although I don't think that someone falling on their face is ever funny, I'm really not attacking you.

Btw, you can get nicotine poisoning if she was also smoking cigarettes in between those pulls.

I guess tobacco is only tobacco if it's in cigarettes, cigars and dip...

The days are long gone where I'd get the slightest buzz from any kind. I still get a small one here and there, but never a big one. All about the flavor now...Ill probably switch over to lucid since the seasons are changing and the humidity is all out of whack every single day. Its making acclimation hell!

Ohhhh now I understand. You were talking about the "arena" being the forum. And that I was saying shisha wasn't responsible to protect myself from a possible backlash on here. Sorry about that.

Yeah it def had something to do with her smoking. I was trying to get the point across that people shouldn't be afraid of Tangiers, and that this is an abnormal reaction. Kind of like, cars can kill if someone is irresponsible behind the wheel, but that doesn't mean that you shouldn't drive. In both situations it's not the thing or substance that necessarily was responsible, but instead the individual person that was affected by it caused an abnormal situation to occur. Don't know if that makes sense, especially since the analogy I used with the car is obviously a much more of a intense situation.

My point is this. She probably shouldn't smoke anymore and the reason for what happened to her was most likely a pre-existing conditioned that was worsened due to her smoking.

And I apologize for getting butt hurt about what you said.

lucid still packs a slight punch if your not used to smoking, more so than say a SB. try going slow the first time to build up a tolerance.

 • 2 weeks later...
There's a bumper sticker running around "Blaming guns for shootings is like Rosie O'Donnell blaming her fork for being fat." Replace guns with Tangiers and replace shootings with faceplants. Some people will smoke too much and not take a break when they need to. If she isn't that much of a smoker, keep an eye on her, skip them in the hose rotation. Its just good practice as the host.

I remember one girl faceplanted here, but she had some other preexisting condition...it wasn't heart related. There are a number of medical conditions that make smoking a hookah more problematic.

Erics back on! Yea, I forgot to tell you about this when I visited.

But yea, she tried smoking some Mizo Guava the other day and almost passed out again. So it's most likely she isn't breathing while smoking, and is just inhaling smoke with no air.

Either way my suggestion to her was to not smoke anything anymore.

Hahahaha

There was another video of a guy having a Tangiers smoke off contest...and the guy is sitting in a chair and passes out on his face. Can't seem to find it anymore.
