thecoalition
So I snapped my base grommet today when i was cleaning my hookah...must have had a tear in it already. So I said screw it and did a full cleaning. I had no lemon juice or baking soda in my place so I had to scrounge the cleaning cabinet. Now normally I would keep chemicals away from my hookah but I found something I had forgotten about. I used to have copper bottom cooking pots and anyone who has owned those knows they are a pain in the ass to clean because the copper tarnishes easily. Anyway, I found a bottle of Bar Keeper's Friend. Basically it brings back the shine to metals and what nots. Figuring meh this should work I went ahead and did a simple hot water and soap clean first. Rinsed until water was clear like normal and then I decided to hit the BKF. I poured some into my hand and just rubbed it onto the copper sections of my tri metal. Rub rub rub and rinse. Rub rub rub rinse again. BLAM! Instant shine. Took off all of the tarnish and water stains. The stem now looks better than when I bought it. With this in mind I figured hmmm....I wonder what kind of stains the shisha juice leaves on the inside. So I laid the stem on its side and funneled some of the BKF powder into it. Then soaked my cleaning brush under running water and scrubbed. Lemme tell you...BLACK came out of it upon rinse. I did it twice more just to make sure its all out. Each time just gallons of dark water. Finally I rinsed it cleared and took my flash light to it. I can actually see the polished, reflective copper on the downstem. I def will have to continue using this stuff monthly for a really thorough cleaning. My baby looks so clean! liquidglass
LOL I thought about posting about BKF 2 weeks ago. I got some about a month ago and I LOVE IT (originally saw Stuie mention something about it) I didn't clean the inside of my pipe, but I did scrub my double tri metal stem hardcore, windcover, and even coal tray. It shined more than when it was out of the box. Def have to try the stem though, I had considered that. Any aftertaste?
bellydancerakn
Also, another really good cleaning product is sensaria citrus cleaner, just for overall hookah clean-age lol. Since it is all natural and you dilute it with water it doeasn't leave an aftertaste and is really easy to rinse out. I just fricking love sensaria in general though lol. thecoalition
yea i know r1v3th3ad but my camera battery was dead. i smoked tang trop revenge while i watched 2 movies today and no aftertaste. just gotta make sure you thoroughly cleanse it out. it was good times. when my gf got home from work she did a double take and said..."Did you buy a new stem?" so it obviously worked well enough! Arcane
honestly, i'd be scared to smoke out of the stem now... but, i got some sort of polish for my tri-metal....it really does shine up nicely and you have to take a step back to look and smile

I've got a few ideas.... 1) nothing in the stem would come through the hose that would harm you after hitting the water or 2) It'd be like (wearing/picking food off and eating/or touching your clothes then touching food) clothes you washed with powdered oxyclean. As long as it's rinsed thoroughly it's safe. thecoalition
i really find no issue smoking after cleaning it considering that the product itself is used for copper pots/pans. you clean them with it and eat out of them. or off of silver plates if you had them. same thing. only in smokey delicious form. thecoalition
i checked the container it comes in and it only states "if ingested drink milk and contact a doctor" again - i return to my pots/pans argument
Stuie
oh yeah I use BKF on my trays and coal carrier. I use it on all my pots and pans. As far as toxic... yeah. But when I clean dishes it's step one in the cleaning process. Then Dawn and hot water. My parent's have been using forever, and taught me that's how to do it... I didn't even think about it. Been using it for years.
Valkrine
Hmmmm... I think i may have to go give this a shot. Been looking for a good cleaning method for a while now. that and the shine sounds like a plus.
liquidglass
When I get some time one day I've got a pharonie that hasn't been shined up in a while. I'll take before and after pics to show everyone EXACTLY how clean it can make it (even cleaned my windcover with it)
