There Is A Thick Green Mucus Coming Out Of My New Hookah

Recommended Posts

I'm not sure if this is normal. I just got my new hookah a few weeks ago. Smoked it maybe 4 times. I went to clean it today and there is a ton of this disgusting green stuff in it that looks like mucus coming out on the brush. And I mean a lot.

It's making me really nervous.

Also, I stupidly left the stem in a water filled base for 4 days. Idk if that could be the cause of it. But anyone know anything about this.?

its the water sitting on the brass, the brass is oxidizing in the water. when you are done smoking take the stem out, wipe it dry and leave it out of teh water.

did i damage the hookah in any way?

50g says his using an Egyptian bowl!

I almost sure it's just tobacco and juices sliding down your stem and just stopping and drying in your stem with a little water and brush... yeah looks like bronchitis phlegm.

Did you clean it before you used it?

What's the manufacturer of the hookah?

Anything other than water in the base?

What type of metal is in the downstem made of?

....and to answer your question...PM me.

if you have a brass inner tube/downstem...then it's oxidation...you really should clean out your hookah after every session....

i love my syrian, but it does become a pain to have to meticulously maintain it to keep it from oxidizing...

I am guessing it's brass since it's a Tesmah so you need to clean it after every session just like Arcane said

copper downstem for the win bitches! i only clean mine once a week.
but seriously just clean it well with hot water and lemon juice/baking soda
let it dry thoroughly before you use it again and it will be good as new.

not concerned about the oxidation build up in the stem?

Copper oxide, I have a copper stem also and the first time I cleaned it I felt like I was washing the statue of liberty. Now I clean it 2 or 3 times a week or more depending on what I smoke.

I never have problems with brass pipes. There will be a period where the green patina will wash off green. Given a week or two, unbothered by brushes, the patina will harden into copper oxide which will be fairly permanent. Copper Oxide is safe, it coats all the copper pipes in our houses, for instance. If you keep scrubbing the patina off, it will take a lot longer to harden into copper oxide and always seem to be green.

The amount of copper could affect that amount of time it takes to fully oxidize, too. Lower copper composition brasses might take longer. That's just supposin' on my part though. I have pipes that are quite old and relatively new that are no problem though.

You could just run water through the main tube and hose port once a day for a week to get it seasoned well and go from there or use it, but brush only very lightly.
