Tangiers With Mod, Questions

Recommended Posts

I recently picked up a pack of Tangiers Kiwi, Tangiers Lucid Brambleberry, Tangiers Medium Phunnel Bowl, and a Glass Mod from MNHookah.com. Mind you this is my first time ever dealing with Tangiers. Generally when I pack other Tobaccos such as AF, Starbuzz, or Mizo, I pack them very light not tight at all and brought up right before the rim of the bowl, and it resulted in great hookah every time.

Now that I bought Tangiers I have had a few questions that I could not really clarify by looking around. The first thing I set up was the Lucid Brambleberry in the phunnel with the glass mod. It produced a lot of smoke but not much taste the first session, even though the second time there was a lot a lot of flavor, maybe due to a little acclimation. In the mean time I let the Tangiers Kiwi acclimate in a tub for a long time, about 24 hours.

My first session with Tangiers I packed it exactly how Eric showed on video, minus the oyster fork LOL. I did NOT use a mod and packed it well enough maybe a little less than I should of. The flavor was really good, the tobacco was on the pretty heavy side but not too hard to smoke, more like you can't take hits back to back. Generally it was a pretty good sessions and my friend and I put it up there as one of our favorites.

The second session, I decided, let me use the glass mod because I just cant understand why I should only be smoking the top of the tobacco instead of having the hot air go through to the bottom. So I started it up, tasted ok for about 15 minutes. Then it became really harsh to smoke, not like burnt, but just like I was smoking barbed wire. I did it again with the mod a third time packed a bit tighter, and still got harsh and there was very little flavor.

The last and fourth time which was yesterday I did it Eric's way which is without the mod and packed it a bit tighter than last time, and what do u know it was smooth again with flavor.

My question is are you not supposed to use the mod with Tangiers?

And as far as the tight packing goes. The tangiers packaging says to pack it just as tight as it is when it is still sealed in the bag. It also says the same for the Tangiers Lucid, it even says to acclimate Lucid, even though people say it doesn't have to be. Is Lucid supposed to be packed as tight as regular tangiers? When or when should I not use the mod...

Thank you in advance :good2:

My guess:

You say that when you dont use the mod you get great results right?
But when you use the mod it becomes really harsh and hard to take a hit?

I think this is because the glass mod is distributing more heat to the tobacco.
So are you changing your coal amount/placement when using the mod?

Maybe start with a little less coal next time you use that mod and see what happens.....if you do, and its not quite enough heat, throw on the windcover rather than another coal.

These guys are right. The mod's not the problem. I used to use a tealight mod with the small phunnel all the time before I got my Tangiers Mini phunnel. Start off with lower heat and give it time to warm up. Then add coal if necessary, or even as Travis suggested- add a windcover. It'll be a much better session this way.

I do use a windcover, and honestly, I use 3 silver coals, and I start them off completely at the edge, to the point that I have to balance them on the rim. Should I try with two?

Do you guys generally ever use the mod with tangiers?

What I used to do was small phunnel with tealight mod, with two Coconaras cut into four halves. Perfect session everytime. Look in my sig to see the tutorials.
