New Member With A Few Questions

Recommended Posts

Hey all!

New member here... figured that I would sign up as I've been browsing the forums and had a few questions..

I really enjoy smoking hookah, and have quite a few times with my buddies etc..

I'm going to be moving in to a place this summer so I want to buy my own hookah to use anytime I'd like.

I'm just not sure which one is best for me. I've heard the biggest ones are the best..

Would it be to my advantage to get a larger one, or as a rookie should I get a smaller and less expensive hookah.

Also, currently I am in Germany (but live in the USA) and here there are many Turkish stores that sell shisha.

I was thinking about picking some up and bringing it home, guessing that it is cheaper here then in the states.

Is there a particular brand I should look for? Today I walked by a window and saw a brand called "Nakhla" for like 3 euro a box.

And I'm not sure how much I can bring either?

Hope someone can help me out, as I really appreciate it! :)

Ive got small ones(16"-26") and big ones (36")...sometimes I think its all about the bowl
I like the big ones coz it can hold more smoke in the vase and can hang out there and cool the smoke. the small $10 egyptian I have is inferior in construction vs the bigger ones...but it smokes well...SO...buy the big one if you enjoy it/smoking hookah "THAT MUCH"...I like looking at a big hookah while im making HUGE clouds...and it makes bigger rumbling noises...pulls good too...

nakhla costs 7-10 bux here...so do the math...try to find MIZO flavors...i likem Edited by Josh Hamilton

First off welcome to the forum. These guys are crazy helpful. Don't forget to read the rules. You don't want to be banned your first day.
Opinions vary on this question and everyone has a different opinion. I personally went with the Mya Qt. It is a smaller hookah but since I live in an apartment and smoke at the dining room table it was the right choice for me. It also comes with a carrying cage that the hookah can be fully set up in so I can smoke while camping. Big pipes are great but you need a place to put it.
Nakhla is good and cheap but I think in Germany it doesn't have glycerin so it might smoke weird, but that is just what I have heard.

Bigger isn't always better, it's quality that matters. If you can get a good Turkish Hookah, locally, and it's solid I would go for it.

Nakhla is a great brand. I would stay away from Cherry and Coffee, it's not quite most people's taste!

Yeah, I see ALOT of hookahs here for sale.. but the problem is I really don't know if it's good or not.

They're like ... 19 euro to 30 euro ...very cheap.

But not quite sure.

And thanks for the replies so far!

I'm going to see if I can find some other tobacco brands too..

For hookahs, Khalil Mamoons and Myas are guaranteed to treat you well... As Stuie said, it's not size but quality that matters...

For tobacco, my favorite brands are Tangiers and Nakhla. If you can get Nakhla cheap, then that's awesome. As for bringing it back to the States, you'll need to call and ask the airport.

Ok, so I will look for that other brand too.

Recommendations on flavors? Don't want to buy crap.

And the tobacco from these companies is cheap then in the US too?...

As for the Hookah itself, should I ask for them by the names you suggested?

shisha in germany is super expensive compared to in the US, and its also not as good quality because the germans love purity laws and only allow it to have a small amount of glycerine and/or honey. nak is one of my favorite brands. I would just buy what you need in germany for shisha and worry about the rest when you get home. They also sell little bottles of liquid at most places you buy shisha here i forget what its called, tabak flussigkeit or something idk, but will help with getting you more smoke and flavor. Where are you at in germany?

I have always liked medium sized hookahs. I bought a small one at a gas station one time and it didn't work very well, but that was probably because it was from a gas station haha. I buy the medium size because i like to use them as decorations when I'm not smoking out of them. I love Nakhla! You can't really go wrong with that brand, but it is strong. Here in GA it is about $6 for a 250g box. I would suggest their mint and mixing it with their other flavors like peach or rose.

$6 for a 250g?? i cant find it less than $10...anyway, it depends on what you want to do really. if it IS much cheaper in Germany, maybe try shipping a box full back to the states if they wont let you take it with you. but yea, ask the stores for the hookahs by name. you have to look like you know what you're doing so they don't try and sell you something inferior haha

Germany has weird laws on hookah tobacco...I do get on the german forums once in a while There are a few kinds worth trying oreint is a german made shisha that get descent reviews , theres anouther german brand elements that has a cool way of getting round the strange tobacco moisture laws...they sell dry tombac that you prepare like you would tombac but then you add a sepparate pre mixed mollases glycerin flavor juice to it(there brand)...It gets pretty awsome reviews but still who knows all the tobacco is messed up in germany
other then that I herar the Elmas branded tobacco is pretty good and so is serbetli but pretty much all german tobacco need to have glycerin added to it........they also have nargilem hookahs in germany its a top notch modern hookah brand also made in turkey I'd rate nargilem>>>>Mya.......

$6 for a 250g?? i cant find it less than $10...[/quote]

with import duties, store markups and our ridiculous "sin taxes" we pay anywhere from $50-80 for 250g of any worthwhile shisha brand :(

wtf? 11,90/box? is the box silver plated? that's almost $16 you can get tang for less than that. nakhla should be almost half of that price. i used to get nakhla here (pre-state tax) for less than $9/250g box. now it's like $20, but i just buy from out of state. just wait until you get here. idk about the hookah selection, i'd wait on that as well. you can get a nice setup over here, and as many europeans who come on here and order stuff from here and pay crazy shipping to get it over there, it must be good. just wait, you won't be disappointed.
