Buying My First Hookah + Accessories

Alright guys, I've been smoking out of my friend's hookah every weekend and I want my own now.
I've been searching all over the forum and I guess figured out what to buy with my hookah.
I'm buying all these items from H-S, and hoping to get that free hookah you get when you spend >$100

And since I'm still a noob, I don't know if I should buy the[b] Mya Hookah Hose Adapter w/ the auto seal adapter for 7.95[/b]. Everyone talks about having an auto sealer, but don't you only need that when you smoke w/ other friends that have their own hoses? I was planning on replacing the adapter thing that comes w/ the hookah since idk if it auto seals.
And since I'm planning on smoking about once or twice a week, [b]how many coals should I buy, and which brand? Coco Nara's?[/b] I hear some other coals are better, but you guys are pro at helping people out with this.
And as for the tobacco and bowls, I'm sorry, I'm such a noob at this, but I've been looking around and some have said that the Tangiers Small Phunnel Bowl is only good when smoking Tangiers tobacco. Is this true? Which bowls should I use if I want to smoke Starbuzz or other brands?

Thanks for your guys' time at helping me out. I'm hoping to make this one of my best hookah experiences yet, since my friends don't even know what a nammor hose is, let alone what brand their hookahs are.

a tangiers phunnel will smoke anything you put in it, if you get one you wont be disappointed. coco's are great coals and most people say their the best but guys on here also like CH coals(cannot say full name) but if you look on Hookahjohns website you will see them, or on hookah-shisha. nats are the way to go in my opinion. the auto seal on the other side isnt a must for me so i wouldnt get one but if you want one get 2 so you dont have to hold your hose tip while the other guy smokes. hop that helps.

Auto-seal is good so everyone doesnt have to put their thumb over the end of the hose when they are not smoking, but if you have a two hose you need two adapters. I would get the tangiers phunnel and an egyptian bowl, tangiers phunnel works well for everything, but the egyptian bowl works great as well and saves a lot of shisha. I would get a large box of cocos, they are going to last a while if you are not smoking everyday and for my they are the best coals.

You don't need to scrub Mya's. My petite is in tip top shape ad I've had it for months. But one for the base is good just one for the stem is unnecessary. Also if you bought the auto seal adapter to replace the current oe o the QT, you wont be able to purge. It's good for turning the hookah into a two hose but other than that you don't need it.

[b]how many coals should I buy, and which brand? Coco Nara's?[/b] CCNs are good. you can never have enough coals, but i'd recommend keeping 1 month+ supply on hand...so, 108ct should suffice.

the Tangiers Phunnel bowl is a great bow, however it's not entirely needed...the mya bowl, although not the greatest should suffice for Starbuzz....you could also invest in a standard glazed egyptian bowl. that should run you about $5.

for tobacco, i'd recommend Starbuzz, Al Fakher and maybe Nakhla (if you're ok with a bit more nicotine in your system)....those have a fairly decent learning curve, so you shouldn't be getting too many bad sessions to start off with....

Are you speaking strictly about QTs or all Myas? I have a Diva and the purge on the autoseal works fine.

if he has the two hose qt n buys the autoseal adapter for the second hose port he will be able to purge it because the qt come stock with a non auto seal hose port. i just know this because that is the way my mini mya is set up one autseal n one non auto seal.but u are correct if he has two auto seal hose port adapters then he wont be able to purge or if he has one auto seal in a purge valve one the other end Edited May 7, 2010 by jeremyk

Neither of the mya's i have bought came with autoseal. i have figured out if you get your hands on some of the big plastic balls that fit the purge (not the small balls) you can throw one in the hose port before you put your hose on and it makes it auto-seal, lol[/size]

I think the stem brush is great for larger pipes, but not that necessary for a QT. The vase brush is absolutely redonkadonk.

I can't remember the last time I used a brush...if you know how to clean correctly, you can get by without a brush.

And I don't have to buy any valve/adapter/cap in case I smoke alone?

And I'm not sure if I should buy the phunnel from H-S instead of HookahCompany. Are they exactly the same? Haha sorry guys, I'm just looking at websites that Stuie uses to buy his bowls.
So if the phunnel bowls are exactly the same, should I just get the phunnel instead of the vortex? Or both? That'll definitely put me over 100, which is good, yea.
Also, should I buy any grommets? I see that they are mentioned a few times in Bowl threads.

Not all phunnels are created equal. From what I've read, the Tangiers Small phunnel is good. The Chinese phunnels are a hit or miss.

grommets are cheap. It doesn't hurt to spend a couple bucks to have spares of the bowl grommet, base grommet, and hose grommet on hand in case yours stretched out or ripped.

Buy a small TANGIERS phunnel from HookahCompany or HookahJohn. Wasting the money on a chinese bowl is a no no. Its worth the extra couple dollars in the long run. Plus, I would skip the Vortex personally. A phunnel will accomplish the same thing more or less, and will work better.

I always have some extra grommets laying around. They do wear out over time, so its always good to have a couple for backup.

I'd say it's a win! Just make sure you don't want the free Mya Mini Acrylic... I hear most people that get them like having them as a backup or traveling hookah. You can throw it in a backpack; no worries of it breaking. I personally would get it, but that's just me. Other than that, your order is full of win good sir!
