Cleaning Help

Sooo, my family owns a house in Indiana on Hudson Lake near South Bend.
It's on an island, and for the past 7 years, the waters been too low to get to it without an extreme hassle.
My sister and I finally got out there yesterday only to discover a jungle gym for mice. The traps caught about 6 or 7 mice, so we tossed those.
However, we realized that there is a bunch of furniture that the mice have run across and pooped on.
Do you guys have any suggestions on how to get a deep cleaning so were not sitting on mice shit?
Weve already got all of the shit off, but stilll...
Ideas? Thanks!

i would look into hiring an exterminator

No need and we don't want to. What I need to know is how to clean everything so it's usable again.

Maybe use one of those deep cleaning vacuums that have a hose attachment or something of the sort... Or just burn it all and replace

Your second option is very tempting, but technically it's a new couch... 6 years ago. We didn't even get to use it!!
I think I should've added...
I want it to be the cheapest option! Haha.

febreeze the hell out of it and sell it buy a new one. joking aside the best thing you can do is rent a carpet cleaner with a hose attachment and shampoo the crap out of that couch. (3 times minimum if it stinks trust me I know. if it doesn't stink 1 time should be enough.)

also welcome to Indiana, I'm sorry.

oh by the way I used to fish at Hudson lake when i was a kid. I think I know where you live lol as there is only one island i can think of that doesn't have a bridge to it.

Now way man. Where ya at now?
There's one main island. The other is more so a peninsula/island depending on how high the water is.
I think you're talking about the one I live on.

I think I will do that. We have a carpet cleaner, but it might be missing attachments... I'll check into that.

definitely a steam cleaner is your best option.steam is hot enough to kill anything and it should bring any stains right out.

Good luck with the cleaning... If there was alot of poop on the outside, you can bet there is a bunch of turds on the inside of the furniture. While one mouse was running around on the outside, the rest of the family was nesting inside of the stuffing, springs and anywhere else you can squeeze a dime into.

If you must keep the furniture, I would suggest taking it apart as much as possible with out destroying it and clean out all those nooks and crannies.

Ahhh shit. I almost kinda forgot about the small sizes they squeeze into... I'll check for sure next time I'm out there, which should be next friday.

for the couch, remove the covers off the cushions, take them to a dry cleaner. for the rest. rent a steam vac, or use someones

My sister said she checked... but I'm not sure. Don't really trust her.
I don't have a steam vaccum... but I do have this.

Your best bet is getting things reupholstered or replacing them, if there was lots of poop on the couches then there is even more urine. Disease spreading urine at that, so in the interest of keeping your health intact you should probably just replace everything that isn't fully sanitizable.
