Necessary To Acclimate?

Recommended Posts

Smell it. If it smells like what it says on the package then probably not.
But I would do it anyways. Rather safe than waste a bowl.
Good luck with it. I just got my first Tangiers two weeks ago and I'm still learning how to get it right.

Does it smell good when you open the package and put it in a container? If yes, then no, you don't need to acclimate it. Adam (KeepItSimple) gets his Noir from Eric's lounge like an hour away and doesn't have to acclimate it at all, yet when he orders from HJ (he lives in the same town as HJ), he does have to acclimate... Yeah.

I'm thinking of getting a tangiers phunnel bowl actually. Is that what you guys are referring to? If so, does it need to be acclimated in case the clay expands/contracts or something like that?

Would much appreciate an explanation, as I'm rather noob in this area.

We're not talking about the bowl. We're talking about Tangiers Noir shisha. Currently there's two lines of Tangiers- Noir (OG) and Lucid. Lucid is more washed and doesn't require acclimation. Noir however has higher nicotine and isn't washed and typically needs to be acclimated due to humidity changes in different parts of the world.

That's not entirely true about the Lucid.

I had to acclimate my K-cherry. Granted, they had to ship it from the US to Iraq, but I still needed to acclimate.

I live in NY and often have to acclimate my Lucid but not for very long. Usually within 12 hours it's perfect and it's more of an airing out than actual acclimating.

Ahhh, thanks for clearing that up. So basically "Acclimating" means leaving the tobacco out in a dry environment for a certain amount of time? Perhaps I'm being "over-obvious" but it might be useful to people who stumble upon this thread.

Yes CASH. You leave it sitting out to adjust to your place's humidity. The best method to use is leave it sit out for four hours, stirring it every hour or so, then put the lid on and store it away for twenty hours. Repeat until it smells like it should. As others pointed out, Lucid may need a little acclimation before smelling good. In my experience, I just leave Lucid out for an hour if it smells a bit funny and then it's good to go.

You might get lucky like me. I live in Indiana and usually don't have to acclimate for more than 4 hours or so. Some flavors will taker longer, some flavors are good to smoke right away. You just want to leave the shisha sitting out where you are going to smoke. I use tupperware like containers that have the number 5 on them. Long and shallow is your best bet for the shape of them.
