Jaffi
Hey folks Do you think a mod used with a funnel does improve the flavour, making it more intense?
mushrat
having never used one i can't say for sure. All it does is make sure the foil doesn't get sucked down and block the central hole.
Jaffi
It also forces the air to flow through the tobacco. I thought perhaps that might make a difference!
mushrat
well, the phunnel is designed to heat up all over. The material its made out of reatins the heat far better than a regualr bowl, so you don't really NEED the circulation. The whole thing gets hot enough to help with the vaporizing process. Thats how you get the problem of a superheated phunnel that burns your shisha no matter how little heat is on it. And even a mod will only circulate the air a LITTLE bit around the center piece. Originally the mods were designed so you could underfill a phunnel without the foil messing up everything as it sagged.
mushrat
trust me, i was here when the mods were invented. the phunnel bows too come to think of it.
Jaffi
That sounds reasonable, the tangiers funnel conducts the heat very well, I noticed that too. So that seems to make a mod more or less useless I guess When I first picked a funnel, I thought "how the hell should that work?", cause I was used to the egyptian bowls. mushrat
me too..until i was having problems with keeping the heat right about an hour into a smoke. I talked a little with eric and then touched the bottom part of the bowl and it was DAMN hot. So i realized that when the bowl itself was superheating you had to take the coals off and let the whole thing cool down. Now i love them for every kind of tobacco if i have the time for a LOONG smoke.
Venger
I had a friend make me a mini phunnel (she works in ceramic) she used stoneware type clay so it really holds the heat.I got that thing rolling monster clouds with one 3 kings coal.just had to move it around once in a while to keep from getting a hot spot.
