Vamp Diaries

I know, I know... I shouldn't like this show, but I do. My girlfriend likes it, and got me into it. Now we record and watch every episode. It was a show that when I watched the pilot I was like "Riiiiiipoff" (talking about ripping off Twilight). But actually the Vampire Diaries books were written before Twilight was, or so my girlfriend told me. And as I watched a couple more episodes I soon found out it's not like Twilight much at all. It's a lot more realistic. Haha, maybe I'd like True Blood then. I hear it's very realistic. I'm sorry, but sparkly vampires isn't realistic to me. ANYWAY, I won't give away any spoilers but the season finale MIND-FUCKED me. It was crazy. I dig this show way more than a lot of other programming out there, hate to admit it.

So, what are your guys' thoughts? Anyone watch this show, or am I the only guy that was forced to watch it with his girlfriend?

It depends on which culture's tale of vampires you're working with -- they all vary but exist from Russia to Brazil -- Japan to Mali. Then there are fantasy writers that amalgimate ideas and apply their own (Meyer) and do what they want with the tales. I personally really enjoyed the Twilight series (books) but I refuse to watch the movies.

after reading the Anne Rice novels and the Brian Lumley novels I have a hard time reading romantic novels that are vampire themed.

Okay i could see being forced to watch a movie with her, but its not like you are both reading the same book at the same time. Next time she tries to trick you, tell her you will only do it if she smokes with you. I have a study to prove the consumption of twilight books is far worse fore you that the occasional hookah smoking.

Vampire Diaries definitely counts as a guilty pleasure. But even the critics love it. And yeah, hell of a season ending....... What is Elena about to walk into in next seasons opener? And how long has you know who been hanging around anyway? (Avoiding the spoilers......) What about Jeremy? Bonnie just got real kick-ass interesting too. First time in a very long time I've had a "what the hell do you mean I have to wait until next season" reaction to a series. Seriously left everybody hanging. Pissed about Amy though...... Oh, oh, and the Mayor? Where does he and his family fit in (and what are they) since they're not vampires......

I know, the season finale was the ULTIMATE cliffhanger. I was yelling at my laptop because I dont get the CW channel so I have to watch it online.

I hope the break isnt too long because I dont think I can wait forever for season 2.

well....according to my sources, which is an article on wikipedia. vamp diaries is based on a series of books and then a spin off of the books in the 90's, then some more books in the series came along in the last couple years. so probably closer to the latter.

I love the Underworld movies. Best vamp movies of all time. Let's put it this way, Jay... This show is not filled with shit like "Vampires sparkle when in sunlight." No no, the vamps in Vampire Diaries actually burn when in sunlight (Well, except for the Salvatore brothers, but that's because they have kickass rings that allow them to go out into the light, which is way less gay than sparkling vamps).

1) hedonistic, i'll rip your face off and drink your blood, evil type vampires (Blade)

2) hedonistic, rich, and super sexy vampires (Underworld....mmmmm, Kate Beckinsale)

Hell yeah, that part was awesome! I think they had the mutated vamps in there just to show how it really was a disease- to show what they could become when the blood supply ran out. All in all I think it was a well-executed movie.

I like the vampire diaries. i watched it first to see what kind of potential it had but the more i watched the better it got. last 3 or 4 episodes were good. before that not so much. but if it keeps going the way it is it gets better every episode.

I just reread this sentence and thought I should reply. Actually, we read the books at the same time. She isn't stupid. She knew I wouldn't read it on my own. She literally read the books out loud to me every night before bed.
